Description

Susan Eleanor Seddon was born in Brazil in 1941 of English parent who had emigrated from South Africa. She grew up on a large citrus and cattle ranch enjoying a strong connection to nature and a rich fantasy life fed by folktales told by her father and the ranch hands. Encouraged by her father, she began drawing her first subjects were the ranch's cows and horses. Boulet never studied art formally. She said, in fact, that she never planned on becoming an artist--the vocation came to her as by accident. In 1967 she came to the United State, where she met and married Lawrence Boulet in 1969 their son Eric was born--an event Susan credited with freeing her creavity "[Eric] somehow freed the child in me; gave me permission to enjoy fantasy.. gave me permission to do unicorns and dragons." Around 1980 Boulet began painting images that, she felt, tapped into the collective human unconscious--images of goddesses and shamans that married the forms of animal and human into a coherent whole She drew inspiration from mythology and poetry, Jungian psychology, and worldwide spiritual traditions, as well as her deep love of animals and the natural world. Susan Seddon Boulet died in her home in Oakland, California, on April 28, 1997, after long struggle with cancer. Her painting are held in collections worldwide.

Features & Highlights

  • Forty-eight goddesses from Greek, Roman, Celtic, Native American, Egyptian, Middle Eastern, and Scandinavian mythologies—among others—are gathered in this deck of Knowledge Cards to enhance our understanding of the role of the feminine deity from ancient history to the present day. In learning about goddesses from different cultures, we can recognize these archetypes as parts of ourselves, allowing us a clearer vision of our strengths and weaknesses and giving us a common thread, a link to the collective unconscious. Susan Seddon Boulet’s magnificent goddess paintings have long been favored by mythologists and art lovers alike, and with Michael Babcock’s insightful text, they offer a brilliant vision of the worldwide pantheon of goddesses.

Beautiful cards, takes water damage very quickly. No Kali or Yemaya.

Do not get these cards wet. You will regret that unless you can get them dry pretty quickly. Just a word of warning.

The deck features beautiful artwork and a plethora of goddesses from many cultures. I knew this before I purchased the deck, but even after getting a look at them up close I was still pretty disappointed there was no card featuring Kali. How can you have a goddess' deck without Kali?! I'd have also liked to see Yemaya/Yemoja, or some other nod to African Traditional Religion.

But even so, again, the artwork is phenomenal and striking. The backs of the cards are mostly informational, but do contain a sentence or two (at most) that can be read as an oracle. Someone with an intuitive connection or even a bit of perceptive discernment would have a fair time using this deck for divination. The cards are glossy, laminated, and pretty small, which is cool because I have small hands.

Diva Wisdom

I have loved Boulet's art at first sight. I discovered her work at a point in my life where I was aggressively exploring the feminine face of the Divine. The Goddess Knowledge cards are excellent renditions of artworks that grace the annual Goddesses calendar and datebooks. The cards may be used for decorative and educational purposes. A wonderful use is as a tool for seeking cultivating the intuitive wisdom associated with each of the goddesses within one's self. Like I said, I love them.

Rhiannon

Boulet was a very gifted artist, whose work is extremely inspiring on a deeply spiritual level. These cards portray her art splendidly, along with wonderful descriptions of the goddesses on the reverse side. The Goddess Knowledge Cards can be used as a divination tool, for daily inspiration and guidance, or simply for the enjoyment of Art. Boulet included many of the lesser-known goddesses in this deck, such as Rhiannon (my personal favorite, as this is also my granddaughter's name). The cards are beautifully printed on heavy, high-gloss cardstock. The artwork is undeniably remarkable. They cards will be appreciated by many.

Poor Cardstock, Beautiful Artwork

The artwork is so beautiful but it’s a shame the card stock quality is poor. It’s a thick card stock but while carefully separating the stickiness of the cards, it ripped some of the corners off from the backside of the cards where the goddess information is written. I’m wary of riffle shuffling them now in case the card stock is prone to cracking and/or warping. This deck deserves a much better printing so 4 stars, otherwise the art & reference information is 5 stars.

Beautiful cards and Good descriptions

I really enjoy this deck- it provides a way to meditate on the goddesses and gives an image to incorporate into ritual or meditations as well. The little descriptions on the back give enough information to build on, and definitely are written in such a way that doesn't detract from the beautiful images. Love it!

Beautiful Cards!

These are beautifully painted cards. These cards can't really be used for divination, but I think they are a wonderful addition to a tarot reading. I do wish that the card stock was a bit more sturdy.

The artwork is amazing and I truly am stunned to the deck

The artwork is amazing and I truly am stunned to the deck. The info on the back is lacking at times, but I already know my myths and legends. It is a good point to start more research.

These cards are simply beautiful. I'm thinking of mounting them in a poster size frame and hanging it so I can look at them all frequently. Delivery was prompt. Arrived in excellent condition.

These cards are amazing

Great cards, beautiful images, but small. Amazing talent of the artist!
The size of the cards doesn't do them justice.
