Description

Review When we lost our baby unexpectedly, silence filled my soul. By the grace of God, Abbey does the impossible in Held by putting words to our pain in miscarriage while offering the hope of the gospel. She guides the broken hearted woman into the endless grace of God. --Gretchen Saffles, Founder, Well-Watered WomenAbbey Wedgeworth wants her book to be a companion in a season of loss. That is what we need, and that is what she has written. As she gently works through the difficult loss of an unborn child, she introduces you to a compassionate God who knows how to walk with you as your ultimate Companion. If you are experiencing or have experienced any kind of loss, you will find comfort in this book. --Dr. Timothy Lane Founder, The Institute for Pastoral CareIt was no coincidence that Abbey was writing Held when we lost our second baby. The portions of it that she shared with me were a balm to my aching heart. This is a Word-saturated book, tenderly written by a woman who loves Jesus, trusts him, and wants to see many hurting moms do the same. I highly recommend it to you. --Kristen Wetherell Author, Fight Your Fears and Hope When It Hurts Review This book will be a wonderful companion to the many women who grieve the very real loss of the children they will not meet in this life. The book is also a journal, with space to reflect on the questions Abbey poses and respond to the challenges given. It is beautifully produced and communicates love, care and truth. As you read the book, tears will no doubt come, as comfort is provided and challenges are given. -- Elinor Magowan (FIEC Women’s Ministry Coordinator) About the Author Abbey Wedgeworth is a wife, mother, and writer based on the South Carolina coast. Excellent resource for miscarriage

I haven’t finished this book yet, but I felt like I needed to go ahead and review it before I forgot. I love this book… seriously. It has been a huge blessing and has helped me understand who God is. Loved Baby was recommended to me and it made me anxious and was not what I was looking for… I wanted biblical truth to help me through this trial, and Abbey’s book is where I found it. I have been comforted, uplifted, and my faith has been strengthened. This book is a blessing and I plan to give it as gifts to anyone who suffers this tragedy. This book is truly a blessing, and it’s exactly what my heart needed. Thank you for your faithfulness in writing this book Abbey. The loss of your child is helping me deal with the loss of mine.

Full of Grace and Truth

After experiencing my recent miscarriage, one podcast that especially encouraged my heart is Held hosted by Abbey Wedgeworth. Each episode features a different guest that Abbey interviews while discussing the various aspects of miscarriage from a biblical perspective. I was so blessed by the podcast that I had to order the companion book and I’m so thankful that I did. Held: 31 Biblical Reflections on God’s Comfort and Care in the Sorrow of Miscarriage is an extremely helpful resource that truly lives up to its title. Held is unique in that each chapter concludes with questions to ponder and space for journaling. It also has devotionals by other authors including Courtney Reissig, Lore Ferguson Wilbert, and Kristie Anyabwile. This aspect of the book increased my encouragement by providing me with a great cloud of witnesses, in a sense, who have walked the road of miscarriage before me and have made it through to the other side.

Having experienced miscarriage herself, Abbey writes in a tone that is equal parts grace and truth. I found her gentle words especially encouraging. One example of them is found on page 51 where she wrote, “We can trust that if God has not revealed it, it isn’t something we need to know in order to grow or to grieve. We must labor to entrust the secret things to God, who is more on our side than we could ever be ourselves. He knows all things; he knows what is best for us. Dear sister, even as your questions bound, cling to what you know—to what God has revealed; his Son, his character, his commands, and his ways. Let all of your ‘whys’ lead you to the good ‘who.’ He doesn’t promise to give us the answers, but he has given us himself: the God who is perfectly wise; the God who knows all things; the God who works for our good.”

Reading Held in the days following my miscarriage made me feel as if the faith of other saints was gently carrying me through my grief. I’m really thankful for this resource and highly recommend it for anyone suffering from miscarriage or to anyone who desires to care well for those who have.
