Features & Highlights

  • Where passion lives...
  • The Maine air was bitter cold and frigid as Dr. Miranda Jones returned to the family home after a busy lecture tour. But her blood turned to ice when, out of nowhere, she felt a knife held against her throat. The unseen assailant stole her bags, slashed her tires . . . and disappeared. Shaken and bruised, Miranda was nonetheless determined to put the assault quickly out of her mind. Then comes a distraction in the form of a summons to Italy to verify the authenticity of a valuable Renaissance bronze of a Medici courtesan known as "The Dark Lady." However, instead of cementing Miranda's position as the leading expert in her field, the job unexpectedly nearly destroys it when her professional judgment is called into question. Emotionally estranged from her mother, her brother immersed in his own troubles-and a bottle-Miranda, desperate to restore her reputation, has no one to turn to . . . except Ryan Boldari, a seductive art thief whose own agenda forces them into a reluctant and uneasy alliance. Now, it has become frighteningly clear that the incident that day in Maine was not a simple mugging, and that "The Dark Lady" may possess as many secrets as its beautiful namesake once did. For Miranda, forced to rely on herself-and an enigmatic partner who offers her suspicion and an intoxicating passion-the only way home is filled with treachery, deception, and a danger that threatens them all.

Very Intriging!

This was a very intriguing read. However, not my favorite Nora Roberts book it was interesting and kept you attention with the vivid and realistic characters she creates.
Dr. Miranda Jones is a specialist in Renaissance Art and is called to Italy by her mother to authenticate a bronze statue called "The Dark Lady", thought to have been created by Michelangelo. Dr. Jones loves her work. She is one of the Jones's from Jones Point. Her work involves artwork, not prints or copies but the original artwork. Arriving home after a lecture she is deeply disturbed when someone steals her bags and slashes her tires. After verifying that the statue is indeed authentic, Dr. Jones is blamed for a media leak and is sent back to Maine.
Someone else does tests to see if the bronze is real and it leaks out that it is a fake. Dr. Jones reputation comes into question and she denies that it's a fake. Her brother, Andrew stands by her as she has stood by him time and time again. One day she goes to his office and meets the smooth, dark, handsome Ryan Boldari from Boldari Gallery. Right from the moment they meet unwanted sparks fly.
Later on a bronze is stolen, what Dr. Jones discovers about her smooth Ryan will shock her and lure her in deeper than she ever wanted to go, but something secretly inside her desires things she thinks she won't ever be able to have.
As Dr. Jones and Ryan track the true bronze, they quickly find themselves in serious jeopardy from an unknown killer determined to hide "The Dark Lady" and destroy Dr. Jones' reputation at any cost. But Dr. Jones and Ryan are not deterred and work together to recover the bronze and redeem Dr. Jones credibility.
This book was full of surprises, mystery, romance, and daring adventure as all Nora Roberts books are.

Homeport

Miranda Jones is a world-renowned art historian in demand all over the globe. Ryan Boldari is a thief. When Ryan steals a piece that Miranda has validated, their paths collide. When Miranda finds out that another piece she authenticated is a forgery, she and Ryan are determined to find out what is going on. As they travel the world searching for answers, the stakes are raised when attempts are made on Miranda's life. There was a lot of information about the art world, but was necessary to follow the plot. I enjoyed the secondary characters also.

Not My Favorite

Normally I can't put Nora Robert's novels down, but with Homeport I actually had trouble picking it up. Miranda Jones was just not a likeable character to me. She lacked depth, personality, and most of all heart. Now, I am used to Nora Roberts having strong female leads with some kind of chip on their shoulder and the "I don't need a man to make me complete" attitude, but Miranda didn't even play that off well. The rest of the characters in the book were just as boring and shallow. The only one that I really liked was Ryan Boldari, Miranda's nemesis and love interest. He actually had personality and a wonderful sense of humor. Besides the characters being lame, though, the plot jumped around a lot and some of the smaller stories weren't developed enough to be believable and/or even interesting. I will definitely still read Nora Roberts, but this won't be on my favorites list.

Homeport Review

This is one of the best Nora Roberts book I've read. There was a pretty good twist in the end that I didn't see coming. There were no parts that I thought was slow-reading. I was pulled in throughout the whole book and I didn't put it down until I was finished.

UGH!

I'm a big Nora fan, but I couldn't even finish this one. By the fourth chapter I began to skim. WAY WAY WAY to much detail for me. Which made it boring and slow. Testing and corrosion, is it fake, is it real ...blah blah blah. ENOUGH! I did however enjoy the side story about the brother (I forget his name). But thats it folks. Unlike ALL the other reviewers, I hated it. I say PASS on this one. But as you can see, I'm in the minority.

well...

Love Nora, she's my favorite. But this one, not my favorite. It was a slow start, I had to make myself keep reading it. It picked up the pace in the middle and I started to really enjoy it. But, as with some other Roberts novels I've read, I just was not buying the "bad guys" motive. This one was a stretch. I found myself just thinking, ok, there's got to be more to it then that. But there wasn't.

But I still love Nora, she's the best! Pick up any of her "series" books, like the Irish Trilogy or the Chesapeake Bay saga, those are wonderful!

Not my favorite..............

This is probably my least favorite NR book to date. It does start off slow but it eventually picks up. I had a hard time really getting into these characters. The story itself is ok but overall there was just not enough there for me to give a higher score..........sorry Nora!

Miranda and Ryan are first class.

Wow. That was the first word that comes to mind when I put the book down a few hours ago. I have just recently become a fan of Nora Roberts and I can honestly say that I have yet to be let down. These two characters were better than Gillian and Trace in Without A Trace. I never thought I could met such wonderful characters, but I certainly have in all the Nora Roberts books I have read. The suspense was mind boggeling and the romance receives five plus stars. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

An Artistic Adventure - Nora Does it Again!

Homeport's theme is focused on the character of Dr. Miranda Jones and takes place along the coastal waters of Maine. Enter, Ryan Boldari, a very handsome, exciting and extremely creative thief. The story encompasses the world of art history and the Renaissance period creating lots of action and adventure as the world renown bronze, "The Dark Lady," disappears disclaiming Miranda's credibility as a top-level scientist in her field. Interesting dialogue on famous artists such as Michelangelo and their works are just added touches of enjoyment as Nora takes us on an exciting murder/mystery ride with romance and intrigue all mixed into one book. I was captivated from the very first page and couldn't relax until I got to the end of the book to see how it all played out. This, in my mind, is the main ingredient to a very good read. Once again, thank you Nora.

Once upon a time in the art world....

Ho hum. This is an easy read, and though the characters are lively and real, the plot lacks depth. The theme of the story is there, the plot is a good one, but the author doesn't pull it off. There is drama and adventure, as there should be when a notable scientist joins an art thief to save her reputation, but I could not get excited about any of the scenes. Miranda Jones is an excellent scientist in the art world, her specialty being that of authenticating some of the oldest and rarest pieces in the world. When her authentication is proven a failure not once, but twice, it begins to look as though someone is out to ruin her name. Then the ominous faxes begin to come in, threatening and evil, but she shows them to no one at first. Enter Ryan Boldarri, also of the art world, and a good love story, and you have the two of them joined at the hip to solve a mystery. Throw in a few unexplained deaths, some off site characters, and a mixture of romance, history, and mystery, and that is our novel. Sound good? It is. Except, I could not help but think that had it been written by someone other than Nora Roberts, it would have enticed me more and been a stronger page turner.
