Description

"You absolutely cannot go wrong by surrounding yourself with greenery." More profound words have never been said. There is so much good to be gained from having greenery inside your home and enjoying outdoor gardening as well (even if it's merely a balcony garden). Gardening is good for the soul and good for mental health; it makes an excellent de-stressing agent; it transforms the stale indoor air into cleaner air for healthier breathing; and it is, quite simply, something that is enjoyable on multiple levels. Once you've decided to introduce plants into your home, the big question is where to begin and what plants to acquire. There are so many choices in houseplants that it's best to do some research and see what will grow well in the space you have allocated for your indoor greenery.xa0Another good place to start is with a concise guide to indoor gardening. Peter Shepperd's book, Houseplants 101: How to choose, style, grow, and nurture your indoor plants (The Green Fingered Gardener), is a great resource. Filled with helpful and encouraging advice, the book outlines what to consider regarding growing conditions (light, household humidity, how warm the space is), how to choose what plants are best for your busy schedule and, the best part in my opinion, a lengthy list of potential houseplants complete with a photograph of the plant, a growing guide for each plant and troubleshooting different ailments and bugs. The author also provides a very in-depth list of references for further reading. This is a must-have book for anyone who wants to start or is already an avid indoor gardener.By Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers' Favorite Peter Shepperd is in his 40s, his interest in gardening started when he decided to give his family access to fresh, homegrown, and organic food. Peter has been studying new gardening approaches to diversify his experience and skillset. His experimentation has allowed him to figure out what works and what definitely doesn't.He disagrees with the use of pesticides and chemicals. He has decided to produce this series of books to cover all aspects of growing, gardening, and organic sustainability. Peter has spent over a decade experimenting with different gardening techniques and perfecting his approach to growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants. Not only this, but he has learned how to make the most of each part of the food that he grows. Teaching others has become his passion as some affordable, and straightforward practices have entirely transformed how his family gets access to healthy, delicious, nutritious, and attainable food. Peter's vision is to slowly transition more and more people away from the often-tasteless vegetables that are purchased in supermarkets and are heavily reliant on the use of chemicals that are damaging the environment, towards homegrown organic healthy produce, believing that the process of doing so will also help grow the person that has produced them as well.Peter lives with his family near Windsor in England.

Very disappointed.

I bought what I thought was a plant how to book. Which is what I got but I'm a visual learner and there were only three pictures in this book and they were in black and white.

Boring and simple book

Really disappointing. Very expensive for a simple, small paperback. The book cover is gorgeous and led me to believe there would be equally enjoyable pictures or illustrations on the inside, but there are no pictures on the inside aside from a very few black and white photos. All the things I want to know about my houseplants need an illustration so I can better identify what I have and the problems I need to fix. This book is so basic and boring and not helpful.

This book has its moments. It’s not terrible but not the best.

This book is good to a point. I hate the absolute negativity that I feel reading it. I love all my plants and yes some of them have difficulty with but almost every plant this book talks about just sounds kinda negative. I do like some small portion of the book where I feel like I’m actually learning something. But it is always coupled with “well I’ve killed eight but I haven’t given up yet” well can you tell me what you did wrong instead? What did you do to correct it? I just didn’t enjoy the book as much as I though I would.. that being said it’s a GREAT book for beginners learning the basics. The photo provided was just funny to me. Why talk about one plant and photograph another. I do agree with the visual learners that photos were really lacking here.

I finally know why my succulents always die

Also, after reading this book... I finally realize why my succulents keep dying. It sounds like I'm giving them not enough sun. I'm pretty sure most of us have boughten at least a few...dozen plants that we didn't know how to properly care for. This book has tons of information on many different types of plants, some I have never even heard of!

Houseplants 101 gives you a fantastic look at WHY you should get houseplants, how to keep them alive, different types of houseplants, and more. The information in this book will help anyone who struggles to keep plants alive in their home. Right now with so many people staying in their homes more than ever, is a perfect time to add some cute plants to their life.

The information on repotting an indoor plant is really helpful for me as well. I need to search for a bigger pot for my bamboo plant.

Hydroponics is something I've played around with before, but not with much of a guide. I just tried winging it, and it makes sense that most of it was unsuccessful. Some of the tips for a Tabletop Water Garden are things I had definitely not tried before, and things that will help your little plants grow healthier.

I had no idea how many edible plants and non-edible plants you can grow indoors. I'm excited to try more plants in my home.

Peter Shepperd sent me the books in exchange for an honest review.

Informative!

My husband ordered this book for me as a holiday gift. Even though I have been successful in keeping my house plants thriving, I am still learning about what each one of my plants need. This book came in handy to help me continue to provide great care for my plants. It is for beginners or someone wanting to expand their knowledge on houseplant care

PLANTS A-Z

House Plants 101 was a great little guide for house plant novices like myself. House plants right now are the trend and I of course, jumped on board. I read this book because I was sick of watching my plant plants slowly die and wasting my money. I keep this book in my favorites bar on my laptop so I can quickly reference an issue or get some advice about light, humidity, food, watering--you name it!
This book covers EVERYTHING you might wonder about. I highly recommend it because it's an easy ready. It's light and even humorous in places and it will answer any question you might have.
I loved the succulent section.
