Description

Gunnery Sgt. Jack Coughlin's autobiography, Shooter , describes his experiences as the top-ranked marine sniper in the Iraq War. Coughlin is also the author, with Donald A. Davis, of the Kyle Swanson Sniper Novels, including Long Shot and In the Crosshairs . Coughlin grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, and joined the Marines when he was 19. He served with the Marines during the drive to Baghdad and has operated on a wide range of assignments in hot spots around the world.

Features & Highlights

  • The Central Intelligence Agency is under attack, and so is its top field operative, Kyle Swanson. The highly decorated former Marine Corps gunnery sergeant is attending the funeral of a friend when a terrorist blows up the grave. A week later, he narrowly survives a grenade attack in Berlin. In Washington, Congress is being told that Swanson has been turned, his private employer is corrupt, and the Agency itself cannot be trusted. Swanson is assigned to find the root of the problem and is partnered up with Luke Gibson, a skilled operative rated as being almost as good as Swanson. They are looking for assassin Nicky Marks, who also was a CIA shooter but now works for a shadowy power broker known as The Prince. But before Kyle and Luke can eliminate the threat, they must identify and find the man who wants them dead. That takes them from the pink poppy fields of Afghanistan to the jungles of Southeast Asia and the streets of America as they learn that the Prince is the ruthless kingpin of a global drug empire that uses CIA planes to transport opium and heroin. Swanson also lines up a secret partner, the beautiful widow of his friend whose grave was desecrated in Mexico, the sharpshooting former commando Beth Ledford, who has her own agenda of pure retribution. Kyle Swanson, at the worst possible moment in a combat showdown, must decide: Do you trust your partner, and if so, which one?

...action-packed sniper novel with strong characters and fresh new story plots.

Book Review - Extremely well written sniper novel by Jack Coughlin & Donald A. Davis. Outstanding technical knowledge and strong characters that keep you engage throughout the entire book. The female Coast Guard sniper - “Coastie” is a nice and refreshing difference in the action thriller genre. Can’t say enough good things about this series without giving too much away. It’s definitely in my Top 10 Favorites and deserves a seat at the ‘BigBoyz’ Table in the Action Thriller genre. Highly recommend the Kyle Swanson series if you like sniper-related thrillers.

Boring and unrealistic - hardly worth reading. And the hero gets married which should end his adventurous life! I hope!

Too much boring detail and not much fun to read. I thought the previous Sniper novels were much better, although I'm getting old and tend to forget story details. The entire plot was so twisted it was difficult to keep reading. I prefer a main character that never stops until he is victorious... faking near death! Unbelievable!

Maggies Drawers

I'm giving this a one-star only because Coughlin is a Marine. As a former combat Marine (Purple Heart), and as a former SWAT team member, sniper trained, I felt obligated. That, said, the best thing I can say about this book is that I checked it out from the library. It comes very close to what can be defined as violence pornography in print. I stopped reading about a third of the way through the story. I almost threw it across the room, into the wall, but at the last moment remembered that it was a library book. Coughlin fired a Maggie's Drawers with this one, that's for sure.
