Okay, can we just talk about the cover for a second?? I mean, this has to be one of my favorite covers ever! It's so beautiful, and it represents the story so well. Definitely an attention-grabber.
As for the actual book, it was fantastic! I absolutely loved the concept; it was so new and refreshing. And holy character development: both Ana and Sam. Ana went from shy and self-disrespecting to bold and confident, while Sam just went from hot to hotter. Their relationship is so cute. I just want to wrap them up in a blanket and hiss at anyone who tries to take them away from me (I'm talking to you, Jodi). You're welcome for that wonderful image.
The only things I didn't like were: the plot was sometimes confusing (wtf was with the temple scene?? I was so lost the whole time) and I don't like the fact that Sam is so old. I mean really old. It reminds me too much of Twilight, and it's kind of weird..

A wonderful debut & the perfect start to a new series!

Wow, what an absolutely unique story! It's one of those books that resist being put nearly into any square of genre. You could say it's fantasy cause it has dragons, YA cause Ana just turns 18, but really? This one defies conventionalisms.

A story of a new soul coming into a society where everyone knows everyone and have been around since the beginning of time. A story of how humans react to the unknown and how a journey of self discovery can teach others lessons about themselves. It has love and romance and it keeps on giving but hinting on so much more still to come and leaves you with even more questions in the end that you might have had in the beginning!

And music, even for someone that loves music but can't for the life of me read music or play an instrument, Ana's love for music and her journey to teach herself and to learn along Sam, it's the kind that warms your heart!

A wonderful read, and so glad that book 2 is coming out in a month! I so want to learn more about Range, Heart, Janan and the new souls!

A new world with depth

Every time I try to come up with good-book-reviewer-educated-and-thoughtful kinds of things to say on this book I just draw a blank (because it’s that good). Jodi has done an amazing job. The world she gives us is beautiful, dangerous, and feel so REAL. The people are good and bad. I have characters I love and those I hate but it’s not just black and white. Even the bad people clearly have reasons for being the way they are. These characters have depth.

This is a book about being the new girl, but being a new girl in a society where no one has ever had to be new before. But it’s also about more than just Ana’s story. It’s also about how this happened, how her society is reacting to her, and what’s going to happen to them all now.

Magical, thrilling and a MUST read!

This book is so beautifully written and is sure to stay with me in my heart for a very long time. Ms. Meadows is an artist and this book is so mesmorizing that I find it hard to even express what makes it so grand, though I will try. Ana's story is unique. There are hints of dystopia, fantasy and a world brimming with magic but those are not the only things that make this story so special. I truly connected with both Ana and Sam and felt that their characters had such a depth as to make them truly believable. Jodi Meadows weaves music and romance in to her books so perfectly that I was completely caught up in this world she created. I read this first book in two days which is nearly impossible for me as I have a three year old who demands my attention. Truly, this book and the following books in the series, are not only brilliant but in my opinion, a required reading for all lovers of the genre. Pick up a copy today and you will not be disappointed. I have already gotten several of my friends to read this series and every single one of them loved them.
