Description

About the Author Jo Wood toured the world for thirty years with the Rolling Stones as the girlfriend and then wife of guitarist Ronnie Wood. She is a model, fashion icon, and beauty entrepreneur, who combines glamour and a healthy organic lifestyle. Jo has four children—Jamie, Jesse, Leah, and Tyrone—and seven grandchildren—Charlie, Leo, Kobi, Arthur, Lola, Maggie, and Rex. The family has resided in both New York and Los Angeles and now lives in London.

Features & Highlights

  • In this wild, behind-the-scenes portrait of one of the biggest rock bands in history, Jo Wood comes clean about her three decades as the girlfriend and eventually the wife of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood. This startlingly honest, laugh-out-loud memoir vividly describes life on tour, in the studio, at the legendary parties—and every raucous moment in between.
  • From teenage model to hard-partying rock 'n' roll devotee, through motherhood, marriage, breakdown, and the challenge of starting over again, Jo Wood has had a roller-coaster ride of a life. At the age of sixteen, Jo burst onto the British modeling scene and became a fixture at London's most glamorous parties. A few years later, just twenty-two years old and a single mom, she met Ronnie Wood and her life changed forever.
  • Holding nothing back, Jo paints an astonishing picture of the sex, drugs, booze, groupies, and—above all—the fun that filled her thirty years as a member of the Stones' inner circle. Telling never-before-heard stories about what life on the road with the Stones was really like, she offers intimate portraits of the band's legendary cast of characters, including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jerry Hall, and Patti Hansen. She recalls the excitement of getting to know international A-list celebrities like Kate Moss, Andy Warhol, Johnny Depp, and Slash.
  • Jo also opens up about her family life with Ronnie: their passionate love affair, the demands of being a mother by day and a wild child by night, and eventually coping with Ronnie's increasingly difficult behavior as his addictions consumed him. For the first time, she reveals her heartbreaking account of what happened when Ronnie left her for an eighteen-year-old waitress, explaining how she was able to forgive, live without bitterness or regret, and find new happiness as an entrepreneur and organic beauty expert.
  • Including never-before-seen photographs from Jo's personal collection,
  • It's Only Rock 'n' Roll
  • is a compelling piece of rock 'n' roll history from a woman with a backstage pass and front-row seat. Enchanting, candid, and moving, this page-turning fairy tale of fame and fortune has the best of the era's many euphoric and reckless moments within its pages.

A BOOK YOU WON'T WANT TO PUT DOWN!

This was an excellent account of life in the fast lane. I could scarcely put this book down it was so good! It is a very well written and candid biography of Jo Wood's life up to and encluding her thirty years of life with Ronnie Wood. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a peek into how the rich and famous live, love, and party.Drugs were very much a part of it all,but I doubt that will be a surprise to anyone.Definately worth the purchase.

A light read

Having recently read Pamela Des Barres book 'I'm with the Band', I purchased Jo Wood's autobiography hoping to get the same great enjoyment as I did from Miss Pamela's and whilst such SATISFYING enjoyment eluded me, that is not to say this is a bad book; it is light weight easy reading. In short, Ms Wood got hitched to a guy who'd hitched a lift on the fame wagon that was/is The Rolling Stones. The wheels fell off (predictably with so much ego, narcissism, promiscuity, infidelity, drugs and booze involved). No real surprises then... 'it's only Rock'n Roll'.

Two and a half stars for me . ('I'm with the Band' I gave 5)

A gritty view of what it's like to be a Rock star's wife

I'm feeling a bit conflicted about how to rate this book. It's entertaining and it pulled me in. At the same time, I disapprove of the drug use, and the bad behavior of Ron Wood, at times, the author, Jo, and many of the people they spent time with. I was happy that Jo matured and grew into a much better person later in her life. It's a shame she spent so much of her life with a man who didn't treat her well. She deserved better, and while I'm sure Ron Wood has his own side to tell, I'm pretty sure most women deserve better.

Here's what I liked most of all about the book: If you've ever fantasized about what it is like to be the significant other of a Rock star, Jo's book is going to convince you that you are much happier with the life you already have. There's no question that I would pick my life over Jo's. I will never long to be married to a Rock star. In fact, after reading this book, I don't think I'd particularly enjoy hanging out with one. I'm an ordinary woman married to an ordinary man, living in a nice house. My husband has never been to rehab. He doesn't use cocaine, he never freebased cocaine, and I'm pretty sure he never cheated on me. He has never been surrounded by groupies. We've never run into financial trouble because we blew all of our money on drugs. And, as a result, our kids haven't been exposed to all of that.

After reading Pete Townshend's autobiography, Richard Hell's autobiography, and this book, I'm seeing a pattern and it's not a pretty one. All of the bad behavior you suspected happens behind the door with Rock stars does. And, sometimes it is even more shocking and disappointing than you might imagine.

I no longer wonder if we are idolizing the wrong people; I'm certain we are. Celebrities and Rock stars shouldn't be the ones we shower with money and adoration. I think we should instead be focusing that attention on scientists, teachers, non-profit organization leaders, and other people who are truly making the world a better place.

I ended the book thinking, I don't really care to ever meet the Rolling Stones, but I think they would be pretty lucky to meet me.

Save you 45 minutes and read something else.

While Ms. Wood appears to be a nice lady, I have to tell you what a bore this book. Unless you want a play by play on what it was to be Ms. Wood,
please save your 45 minutes of reading time. And when I say what it is like to be Ms. Wood, I mean all of the day to day boring life details (not Ronnie hanging out with Bonzo before a Small Faces Gig type of details). I believe it was around page 80 she finally got to life on the road with Ronnie (of pages 315). It took almost 80 pages to lead up to this after hearing about her life as child and young woman. Seriously, this book is a snoozer. Nothing in it was remotely revealing of any back business of the being in the Stones. Look, I have read a billion books on musicians, I am not looking for anymore tell all tales, I am looking for new insight on the business and interactions with other legends in which we may have never heard about. Ms. Wood is very adamant about how she was one of the only wife/girlfriend of the Stones who ALWAYS went on tour. Could you have not at least once mentioned what it was like to meet Buddy Guy or other related type Blues Legends that Ronnie idolizes and whom has hung out with and Jammed on many occasions over the years? No, we got to hear about how life was claustrophobic living in Brazil or exotic geographical locations of wealth. Again, she seems like a nice lady and I am sorry that after 30 years you figured out that you can't make a alcoholic stop drinking. Cheers.

Relatively Tame

Considering what Jo has seen over the years, I'm pretty sure she could have written a book with many more salacious details.

She didn't go that route, though. Nevertheless, it's very much worth the quick read. Ronnie does sound like the boy who never really grew up but Jo pretty much forgives him for his actions.

IMO, Jo was the most beautiful of the Stone's wives, with props to Patti Hansen, of course.

Bubbly Jo delivers a fun read!

Jo Wood is the type of woman you wish you were friends with. Her light, bubbly personality shines through and makes this such a fun, enjoyable read. She shares in this book all the things Ronnie does not. She honest about all the drug and alcohol abuse as well as the pain she went through when Ronnie left her for a girl 41 years younger then him. All of this is done without a hint of animosity. For me the book shines most when Jo talks about the years she worked as Ronnie's tour PA. She takes you backstage, and you feel the excitement as though you were walking alongside with her, gearing up for a great night of rock 'n' roll.
