Kodokan Judo: The Essential Guide to Judo by Its Founder Jigoro Kano

I wanted to teach my son some of the concepts I learned and realized as soon as I got this that one really needs a live master to learn this stuff. Or, you could put one in your window and scare people off. But if you really want to learn judo, you need to go hands on.

If your playing yourself some Judo, then this book definitely needs to be in your library. The only issue I have is that the formatting is kinda wonky and needs some serious updating, kinda hard for me to explain because my brain hates me but once you sit down with it you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Great work from the master. Excellent show of techniques. Sequential photos of each technique. Clarified a lot of my questions. I use it as a reference against Jiu jitsu books because of similarities.

Excellent compilation of Kano Jigaro's works in Judo. Covers much material and may enhance any instructor's knowledge and understanding of the art.

This is a fantastic book, not just from an historical perspective, or as an encyclopedia of techniques, but as a way to gain access to Kano's thinking and intention behind the art. As a Judoka, and an author ("Krav Maga - Real World Solutions To Real World Violence), I was impressed by the clear direction, and thinking behind the techniques - I know firsthand how difficult it can be to capture the essence, dynamism and movement of a technique, and this book does it well.

It is a great reference for any Judoka, and a great introduction to anyone interested in the art.

If you are into Judo this is a must. Read it, learn it, know it...from the master.

Love the book. Has all the info you need for judo. Only thing I can say bad about it is the pics were small and black and white. The escapes were no pics with only explanations
