Larousse Pocket Dictionary : Portuguese-English / English-Portuguese

Great dicitionary! It is difficult to find a dictionary which shows Brazilian Portuguese instead of European Portuguese. Most of them just show European Portuguese.If you are learning Brazilian Portuguese, this is the dictionary you need.

I took this down to Brazil with me on my first trip where I knew almost no Portuguese. It was helpfull for looking up things in my hotel room or while in the airport but it was too bulky to carry out on the street or to restaurants with me....after all I din't want to stand out as a complete tourist. It would be a good supplement to a small pocket phrase book that may have fewer words but is more portable.

I find it very helpful when traveling to Brazil. Sometimes Internet is not available.

Like: Very thorough as a Dictionary. Easy to use.

Dislike: Bulkier as a pocketbook dictionary than what I was hoping for. I had planned to travel with this "pocket" dictionary, which this wasn't exactly.

It doesn't have a lot of words, not useful for school! If you are also a Brazilian studying in an American college get the Merriam Webster. It's better to get your brain used to learn in English rather than translating all the time (you will learn faster).

Amazon seems to be conflating all of the pages for Larousse dictionaries onto the same page. These various customer reviews, for example, may be for the Larousse Italian dictionary, or for the Portuguese one, or for some other Larousse dictionary, like for a pocket-sized item. Just read the variety of reviews below. It makes it hard to buy the dictionary that you want, and makes the customer review/rating section absolutely meaningless.

A very good collection to help my ESL students as they learn English.

This is ok for a walk around reference dictionary. but while doing Rosetta, I found about 3/4 the words I looked up. It does not have the verb tenses and forms of nouns. I suggest a much better dictionary and a grammer book to get real help. I am trying WordReference which loads on my HTC Incredable and other Droid phones. After only two days, I am very impressed. A more thorough test later.

My budget (like many others) is extremely tight and I had to take Portuguese 101-102 at school this semester. I was looking not only for a dictionary that was good, with a perfect size (I commute so it is important for me to stay as light as possible) but also not too expensive or at least a good dictionary that I could afford and I found it.

Buying books in Amazon has always been a wonderful option and experience for me. I can get a hint from other customer's review, I get the description details of the product, and the prices are competitive, I never had a problem in any of my orders.

I was impressed by the quality. It's not Pocket sized as advertised but that really didn't bother me at all. Overall I'm pleased with it.
