Beautiful edition but NOT AS ADVERTISED BY AMAZON

My 4 star rating is for the quality of the actual book, which is a lovely large format hardcover binding of the wonderful graphic novel.

My rating for my Amazon purchase is 1 star. VERY BAD.

The problem here is that Amazon advertised this as a signed and numbered copy and I, like many other reviewers, bought it because of that. My order was placed in November of 2011 and the release date was changed numerous times (6 at my last count) but I stuck it out. Having finally received my copy (which again is beautiful), I was EXTREMELY disappointed to find that it was neither SIGNED NOR NUMBERED. Amazon customer service was extremely unhelpful as they had no information and wouldn't/couldn't transfer me to someone who did, but I am most frustrated by the fact that Amazon has now changed the product description so that it doesn't say SIGNED AND NUMBERED. This feels underhanded and is seriously troublesome.

Signed and personalized **when purchased directly from Conlanpress.com**

The publisher's website, Conlanpress.com, has the standard version and the deluxe version signed and personalized by Peter - they mention nothing about numbered but I expect those were gone in a wink! Peter will autograph your book with a personalized message, which is plenty long enough for a really special note or some prose. You may want more than one copy, or the original and the deluxe - the deluxe is so heart-swellingly beautiful that it's hard to look at it for long all at once, you start to get lost in it!

Beautiful retelling of the story

The Last Unicorn has been a novel and a movie, but in some ways I like the graphic novel version best of all. It combines stunning visuals with Peter Beagle's text. This is a very faithful adaptation of the novel with some influence from the movie, although Renae DeLiz's artwork is of a much more realistic style. The art has bold colors that really jump off the page. As for the story, Peter Gillis wisely stuck to Beagle's language in the novel. Many lines are simply lifted from the book. Gillis also does a good job incorporating more of the story than the movie did. We get to see more of Haggsgate and more of Captain Cully's band (although Haggard's 4 men at arms are absent).

There is a regular edition of this graphic novel at [[ASIN:1600108512 The Last Unicorn]]. The only difference I can tell is that the Deluxe version contains two short stories, one by Gillis and one by Beagle, although neither is set in the world of the Last Unicorn. ALso, the Deluxe version contains more art and comic covers. Note that this Deluxe version does not come signed, but you can buy it directly from Conlan Press and get it autographed if that's important to you.

Not signed or numbered

Publisher: IDW Publishing; Dlx Sgd edition (May 29, 2012)

This edition (advertised as signed for amazon.com and signed and numbered for amazon.ca) is neither signed nor numbered.

If that doesn't matter to you then it's a lovely volume but I only shelled out for the "deluxe" edition because I wanted a signed copy and it's disappointing to see this being advertised to include something that it does not.

Good

Excellent and lovely visual narrative, and the text and concept is really accurate to the original book, nothing to worry about; the edition is beautiful too and a few of the drawings at the end are worth the peek. It would be perfect if not for the drawing style, simple coloring and that stupid-puffy- looking thing in Amaltea's forehead (it really bothered me).

Exactly what I wanted

I saw this book at a comic book store for $50, and no matter how much I told myself I wanted it there was no way I was paying that much. I told a friend about my find and she told me amazon had it way cheaper. So I came here, bought it with an additional discount, and it arrived two days after I placed my order.
It's a beautiful comic book. The artwork is gorgeous and the cover is simply awesome. I'm very happy with my purchase.

The art is gorgeous

The only complaint I think I'd have is that the outside cover seems rather weak. The fancy black cover of the spine has started tearing and peeling pretty easily, so I have to be especially careful about keeping it in a safe spot. Other than that, the book itself is amazing.

Excellent condition and came at a fashionable time

Excellent condition and came at a fashionable time. The book is bigger than the regular edition, which was pleasantly surprising. I do not regret purchasing it, though it is pricey. I would have liked it at a more reasonable cost, but as a fan growing up on The Last Unicorn, I adore the book. I was also happy to see Frank Stockson's illustrations full blown on several pages in the back instead of tiny thumbnail like the regular edition presented (a crime in my opinion). He illustrated several of the issues and they are beautiful. The colorist and inker did a good job, while not the best and I could critic it, it is lovely still. A great purchase for anyone who adores Beagle's novel or the animated film.
