Good Companion in the Kitchen

I could not even make eggs. My mom always did the cooking and now my wife did the same. I wanted to learn and found Laura on you tube. So I have read the recipes of foods we like. I bring my laptop in the kitchen and cook with Laura (Sorry Joe). My first adventure was Chicken Marsala, and Bam. Fantastic!! I surprised myself and my wife. I think she is a little jealous. Since I enjoy Laura on you tube, this is a natural progression. Mostly new recipes and easy to follow. I am glad she fulfilled her dreams and it shows. Thanks for sharing your expertise with the world. I added a picture of the eggplant I made using Laura. Another home run!

Horrible! DO NOT BUY

I was gifted this book & I must say though the photographs are BEAUTIFUL the book in itself is very basic, Some of the recipes are clearly ripped off from Pinterest (You can clearly find them word for word) I feel like the Vitales are a fraud & just looking to make a quick buck. I wouldn't recommend this book at all, I'd have more respect if she would own up to the fact that she is stealing others and calling it her own.

Cute Knick Knack Cookbook

I just got the book and I am going to try to be honest. A lot of the recipes just seem like something you throw together with whatever is on hand. If you already pretty much know how to do that, it is kind of redundant. It is a pretty book, a nice size that is not too heavy or cumbersome, lays flat open with a good binding, has an attractive lay out, the pictures look very appetizing, and the wording is concise and clear. It is just not very mind blowing in terms of cooking. I think it is more or less a cute souvenir to have as a fan of the show. I was hoping for some more bread recipes, but there is basically not really much besides pizza or some quick breads like pancakes.

Also as a vegan, a lot of the recipes aren't going to work for me. I tend to make substitutions on my own, but I was hoping for more that could at least be easily altered for different tastes. As a first try at a cookbook with someone with no experience at writing, it isn't bad. As a good reference book on cooking in general, it is kind of weak.

She kind of has a cult following on youtube where people go insane for whatever she does. I anticipate getting some of them responding for not giving this five stars. If you check the comments to her videos there, there are arguments over why someone criticized her every time someone says something negative.

I am still trying to think of a recipe that I would like to try and adapt, maybe the butternut squash soup with sage. The brownies are so full of butter and eggs that I feel like I would maybe just stick with my own methods.

ehh

I was looking for more Italian dishes... I wouldn't repurchase or recommend because you can find all her recipes on her YouTube channel (which also has better recipes than this book.) I wanted to buy this expecting some of her popular and great Italian YouTube recipes would be here but nope. It's not that bad, but I just expected it to have better Italian recipes (coming from and Italian trying to learn more classic dishes) Then again, it is titled "Italian-American" so I guess its my fault for expecting more lol

Waste of money

While the pictures in the book are pretty, the recipes themselves are nothing new. I've seen many of these recipes on Pinterest and other recipe sites. I guess I expected more original content.

Good overall, signed bookplate sent separately from book..

I received my book last week and just tonight decided to try one of the recipes. The dish turned out good, i had to change a few things because i didn't have fresh herbs and yellow potatoes as the recipe required. It was easy to make, my kids who are under 6 years old ate their whole plates so to me this was a good turn out. I have followed Laura for a few years now and I have found most of her recipes to fit my busy mom lifestyle. Now for those wondering about the signed book plate, you had to go to Laura's website and fill out a form with your order number, i didn't find out about it until I saw her husband's post on Instagram with details about. I believe that they are sending out the signed bookplates separately from the book.

Laura In The Kitchen

I found Laura In The Kitchen on YouTube to be what worked best for me to learn how to cook pizza on a stone two years ago. I then made my own binder with many of her recipes from my computer. I like many of these recipes because pasta, fish, chicken, and vegetables taste good and are what I think to be healthy. I skip making most of the deserts, but I might try making some with less of the unhealthy items added. A person could go to a computer and find most any recipe to make just about any type of food, but I already have more invested in computer ink than the cost of this very nice book with beautiful pictures. The tomato soup is the best that I have ever tasted. I hesitated to believe, add broth if needed. Most soup recipes need way more broth or water than what is listed. Laura's tomato soup is perfect for me, with no broth or water added. Another reason that I like this book is the fact that the recipes do not require a visit to several stores to obtain the ingredients, but enough ingredients to make food much higher quality than what the average family has available.
