Entertaining Read!

This was the third book in the Fairview Station series and highlighted the youngest sibling, Dr. Dylan Carlyle.

Dylan was dedicated to her career as an ER doctor and to her family. But she did not have much of a social like and didn’t have flings. Her nurse friend Holly told Dylan she needed to relieve some of her tension and she should hook up with someone in the hospital like a nurse or even Finley Masters, a cop who arrived with an overdose victim. Finley had a well know reputation as being a womanizer and described as drool-worthy. Dylan quickly dismissed that idea and went to the hospital’s on call room to try to rest. To Dylan’s surprise, Finley was already there and having sex with a nurse. After watching them for a bit, Dylan was angry at their unprofessional behavior and at the same time enthralled by Finley’s nakedness. Actually, Finley was doing exactly what Holly had told Dylan to do. After seeing Finley’s naked body, a struggle ensued between Dylan’s brain and her body. She was attracted to her physically but not her reckless womanizing ways. But that slowly changed when there was a shooting during a children’s festival held at the Fairview Station where Dylan’s family was present, as well as Finley. Dylan put herself in harm’s way to treat the wounded which included Finley’s best friend. She then saw a more sensitive side to Finley.
I read the other two books and have always enjoyed the family dynamics of the Carlyle clan. So it was nice revisiting them again and their open level of communication with each other. At times they were a bit intrusive questioning Dylan’s love life much to her annoyance, but it was out of concern and love for the youngest sibling.
I like stories that the characters have a chance to get to know each other over a period of time before declaring their love. It seemed like- in a blink of an eye- Finley and Dylan declared not only their love for each other but a life long commitment. This transition period from their previously long held beliefs was rather abrupt. I think I would have enjoyed this story better if the characters had more time to get to know each other.
Overall, VK Powell wrote an entertaining story that fans of the series will enjoy.
