This is the second "Girl of the Year" series that my daughter has read. She started reading them when she was 8yo, and we got the "Luciana" series for her 9th birthday. My daughter really likes science and space, and she LOVED this series. Most nights we let her stay up and read a little bit in bed, and she usually reads for about 30 minutes or so before turning off her light. For the "Luciana" series, one night we caught her up two hours later still reading, and she was *so excited* to find out what was going to happen. Totally recommend.

Exciting STEM story with good lessons

Highly recommend all three Luciana books, they are our favorite American Girl books so far and very inspiring for girls, encouraging interest in science, robotics, space exploration and programming.

(Spoiler alert)
The story starts out a little slower than first two as Luciana visits family in Chile and discovers they don’t seem to share her excitement about Space Camp. An earthquake shakes things up, Luciana gets an opportunity to stay with real NASA scientists on a mission and through a series of dramatic events she learns how to be a better friend (and a better cousin). Very fun story, recommend for any girls or kids interested in science or space who can read, or are willing to listen to a couple of chapters at a time. The way this book is written, the words flow easily and it can be read aloud to younger gradeschoolers.
