Description

"David Burnett takes readers inside the elite world of SOAR, the most accomplished and secretive special ops aviation unit in the world. Burnett’s unique perspective reveals the importance of team work as well as heroism, and what it’s like to be a crewman at knife’s edge, where a moment of inattention can bring catastrophe to you and dozens of your closest comrades. Readers will practically smell the hydraulic liquid and feel the shake of the rotors as they turn the pages." - Jim DeFelice, NY Times #1 best-selling co-author American Sniper, Code Name Johnny Walker, Fighting Blind and the Dreamland series with Dale Brown

Features & Highlights

  • David Burnett takes readers into a unique world of the 160th Special Operations Aviation regiment. His journey starts in a conventional Army unit where he doesn’t feel fulfilled in his duties and obligations. This lack of responsibility drives David to pursue the dream of becoming an MH-47G Chinook helicopter crew chief in the most secretive and elite aviation unit in the world.
  • David is met with constant hurdles and set backs trying to achieve his ultimate goal but he is more determined than ever. After graduating from the units five week selection process he is thrown into school after school and non stop training before being able to step foot on the aircraft he so desperately dreams of crewing on.
  • After almost a year in the Special Operations unit he is trained and ready to deploy with 160th, and it is nothing short of intense. He learns quickly that his new units mission op tempo is exactly what he had hoped. He is eager to prove himself among the ranks and continues to hone his craft over the next four years. After five deployments with the unit as a crew chief he is discharged from the military.
  • After leaving the fast paced world of the SOF community he falls into a deep depression. Alcohol becomes the new most important thing, and he finds himself in a new and reckless battlefield. He never saw this coming.

NSDQ - Night Stalkers Don't Quit

Where does one start ? I couldn't put the book down and when I did finish it , I wanted more . I hope David writes a 2nd book , because there's so much information from one person's point of view , and that of his as an Enlisted Crew Chief . The 160th SOAR is in the public eye and more visible these days , especially since they were involved with publicly acknowledged missions in the GWOT during OIF in Iraq , OEF in Afghanistan and current areas such as Northen Africa . Most Americans probably never heard of them or of their existence until the 1993 First Battle Of Mogadishu which tragically resulted in 5 deaths of Pilots & Crew from the 160th , along with 6 Rangers from 3rd Battalion 75th Regiment and 6 men of the 1st SFOD-D ( Delta Force ) . Beyond INFIL/EXFIL of USSOCOM ( United States Special Operations Command ) Personnel - JSOC , CIA/SAD , CAG ( Delta ) , 75th Ranger Regiment , DEVGRU ( ST6 ) , AFSOC 24th STS , etc..the 160th has a unique history all to themselves .

The unique , highly-motivated individuals attatched to this unit exemplify the true meaning of professionalism , even in the eye of extreme peril and sometimes tragedy . The exploits of the 160th have been and continue to be de-classified . You want to read up on something absolutely incredible , read up on 1988's Operation Mount Hope III which involved SOAR capturing a crashed Soviet-made Mil Mi-25 "Hind-D" attack helicopter in Chad , Northen Africa . Long story short , they sling-loaded the abandoned Soviet Chopper onto an MH-47 Chinook and flew it to a waiting C-5 Galaxy , all the while avoiding the Libyans . This is just one Operation involving the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment . Their motto is NSDQ , short for Nightstalkers Don't Quit . They won't and neither does this book I highly recommend .

WOW! Just WOW.....

Inspired, awestruck, humbled, thrilled, excited, proud, unworthy, heartbroken, grateful, and forever changed; it is all there in this phenomenal journey. I could not put it down and there were moments where my hands were hurting from gripping the book so tight. Anyone and everyone will be impacted by this story. David's courage is multifaceted and his service in the Army as well as by writing this book leaves a legacy that will continue to save lives. Well done David! Thank you!

Good Read

One of the best books I've read on the 160th SOAR Unit. It helped me understand the sacrifice of men and women overseas and the time and dedication they give to be the best.

Great read

David Burnett puts words to paper that people need to hear, and paints a picture of the special operations world that people need to see: the brave men that ferry the pipe hitters to and from target, hitting the X with precision every time and with zero margin of error for time on target. These guys are the reason that guys catch the enemy by surprise and get medevaced quickly. The final part of the book dealing with the aftereffects of service was powerful and could not have been easy to write, but it is good that Mr. Burnett did, so that others know they are not the only ones going through these struggles and that they can be overcome.

Great inside view of the160th life

Great read...! Authentic and true to heart. As a CH 47 pilot for 12 years it was a great view from the vantage point of the guys that keep it all together💪🇺🇸
Looking forward to the next book!
