fast paced and sometimes frantic, but fun story

Originally reviewed for [...]
MAY THE BEST MAN WIN is the first book in the new series The Best Men by Mira Lyn Kelly. The Best Men are four friends that will take their turns being the focus of a story and they all play important roles in this book, drawing immediate interest in the entire series.
Jase Foster and Emily Klein have a history that started out badly in high school and, as adults, they claim to hate each other. Unfortunately, they find themselves matched up as maid of honor and best man in several weddings when many of their friends decide to get married within several months of each other. Regardless of how they feel about each other and that they are constantly fighting, they find themselves incredibly attracted to one another as they work their way through the series of weddings. The sexual tension can be cut with a knife, but can they put the past behind them and develop a new relationship as adults?
Both Jase and Emily are very likeable characters, in spite of the fact that they fight like cats and dogs. As we peel away the layers, we find that Jase hurt Emily and she somehow needs to find a way to forgive him and move past it.. We also find that Jase has a lot of issues in his background that he needs to come to terms with before he can fully commit to a relationship. I found myself cheering this couple on, hoping that they would get past their issues and find a way to finally be together.
I did have some issues with the writing of this novel, and I have to admit that I was totally confused in the first couple of chapters. It seemed to jump around and I couldn’t follow it. After re-reading a couple of times, I got a reasonable grip on it and moved on. The story seemed to settle down, but even though it was not as confusing as the beginning of the book, I still found it to be somewhat frantic. The characters were on and off and on and off so many times that it was hard to keep track. The author’s tendency to use a lot of short, choppy sentences and phrases added to the frantic feel. This is the first book by this author that I have read so I don’t know if this is her usual style or not.
I really liked the premise of the book, and the series, with the weddings feeding into each other but I was amazed at how many mutual friends this couple had that asked them both to be best man and maid of honor, but it seemed a bit contrived. They must have been incredibly popular in their circle of friends, yet until the weddings started, they didn’t seem to have any contact at all. I found that a little odd.
I enjoyed this book once I got into it, but parts of it just didn’t ring true for me. Add that to the frantic writing style and I’m giving this three stars. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, however, and hope that these issues have been resolved.

Worth the read!

May the Best Man Win by Mira Lyn Kelly is highly recommended. The story gives two people a second chance at romance. Of course, it’s touch and go at the beginning, especially since they don’t like each other and constantly fight. But since both Jace and Emily are paired together at a friends wedding, their attraction to each other heats up and sooner than later, their connection is hard to resist. Both characters own up to their past mistakes and show a great amount of character growth.

I thought it was hilarious how many mutual friends they had. They were pushed together from the get go and that much pushing is just fate! Everything about this is a must-read. The characters are enjoyable, the plot is entertaining, the writing is done well, and the cover is gorgeous. Definitely going to have to be a copy for my bookshelf. If you enjoy your stories with the enemies to lovers trope or are a fan of second chances, this is a great book for you to read next!

Such a great start to this series!

**Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

"May the Best Man Win" is written by Mira Lyn Kelly, and it is the first book in her The Best Men series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Emily Klein and Jase Foster.

I really enjoyed this book! I've read so many romance novels throughout the years, but I felt like the premise for this story was a little different. Emily and Jase have a lot of mutual friends, who have all decided to get married. Emily and Jase may not exactly get along, but because their friends want them in the wedding party, they always get paired up and play nice.

There's a lot of tension between the both of them in the beginning of the book, and it had to do with something from their past. They never exactly talked about it all these years until it gets brought up one night. But the more times they are paired together at these weddings, the more they realize that maybe they do have feelings for one another. That just maybe, they want to be in a relationship.

But can Emily and Jase learn to trust one another? Are they willing to give love a chance, or will the past stop their relationship from going any further?

Mira did such a wonderful job with "May the Best Man Win"! It was a well-written, complex story with a strong, yet vulnerable hero and heroine. You can't help, but root for Emily and Jase! Really looking forward to the next installments in this series! "May the Best Man Win" is definitely a must read!

They say that there is a thin line between love and hate which proves true

I received this book from Sourcebooks for a fair and honest review.

Mira Lyn Kelly writes a witty, sometimes serious, emotional story based on friends who are attendants in their friends weddings. Jase and Emily were friends in high school until tragedy strikes a mutual friend. Since then they have a somewhat hostile relationship but must put on a smile since they seem to be constantly paired for their friends weddings. They say that there is a thin line between love and hate which proves true. The more time they spend together, the more their feelings change and they must address their past in order to have a future. Great story.

FANTASTIC BOOK!!!

I love Mira Lyn Kelly! I love the way she puts heart into the stories that she writes. She definitely did that in this book. The emotional twists and turns of two people that have issues in their pasts that keep them from trusting in their present, and more importantly their future. Ms. Kelly did a phenomenal job doing this.
You have read the blurb, and you liked what you read and so you are reading the reviews. I am not going to rehash the blurb and give you my take on a general synopsis of the book the publisher did a great job doing that. I am going to tell you more of what I liked in the book, but I am also going to tell you about what I did not like so much in the book. The bad, the book at the beginning was a little bit too choppy/jumpy for my tastes. I totally understand there was a lot to cover in the beginning to set the gist for the rest of this wonderful book, yes wonderful book!!! I was really, REALLY happy that I read the rest of this book and did not put it down and not finish it. The rest of the book MORE than made up for the choppy beginning. I love the way Jase and Emily play off of each other. You can see that they totally belong with each other but are too thick to realize it.
This is the first book of a new series for Ms. Kelly, each book will be a stand-a-lone book that can be read separately. I love that I will be able to see Jase and Emily in future books as well as characters we met in this book. I hope Max is next!
Thank you NetGalley for listing this wonderful book on your site. Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca Publishing for approving my request to read this wonderful book and gifting me with a copy for my honest review.

Reviewed for Wicked Reads

3.5 Stars

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This was a good read but I really felt like it started off missing a chapter. It took me until almost 10% into the book to figure out what was going on, there were to many characters introduced all at once and it was just very confusing at the beginning. I also found the storyline to be a bit unbelievable, I just don’t realistically see anyone being invited to be in so many different weddings and definitely not two people. On the upside though, it really was a good read once the confusion was straightened out. I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion and Jase and Emily’s chemistry is off the charts.

Jase and Emily have known one another since high school and Jase believes that Emily broke his then bestfriends heart. The two despise one another and have had the unfortunate luck to be thrown together because of their similar heights in their friends weddings (I lost count exactly but I think maybe 5/6 weddings?) Though the two hate each other their attraction to one another is off the charts and after being forced together so many times they can no longer resist. There is a ton of back and forth with neither of them being on the same page about commitment, leading us to believe they’re never going to work it out.

I do look forward to reading the next book in this series, I’m excited to see where the author takes us next.
