Surprisingly basic

Alaskas forte may not be memoir At least not in the traditional format I hate to say it, but this book was boring mostly-schmaltzy while trying to be cool and just not funny when it should have been intimate and hilarious Alaska knows how to be stupid and supremely incisive, not to mention emotionally sophisticated all in the same breath just see “Pussy” from her debut album It has the emotional resonance of Mariah Carey at her best and the catchy knowing humor of Alaska at her flowing, riffing best It’s Alaskas YouTube.com clip where she impersonates Lady Gaga as just a “regular gurl”. It’s in her elevating RuPaul and her imperfect but stunning Drag Race show while also starting her own pageant that is wildly more inclusive and forward thinking while RPDR struggles to keep pace in these changing socio-political times Alaska may “asssssssk” Ru a question, but she’ll never be asking if she has something on her face The respect is felt even as she simultaneously shows up it’s dated philosophies So this book I mean, it’s cute But it doesn’t have the biting social tone of her character “Lil Poundcake” nor the playfulness of her beehive hair and electro-pop tunes about boys and body parts and money This is the woman who can make Gia Gunn the center of a joke and also it’s penultimate classy redemption in one music video “Stun”not to mention her appearance and sisterhood evident in all the guest turns she makes and employs Maybe her life hasn’t been that, I dunno, deep If so, you know God bless her and good on her But I suspect there’s a lot more to her than the mildly amusing anecdotes and stillborn attempts at kookiness on display here Alaskas hat trick has always been her raunchy stupidity paired with her empathy and understanding of the whole stupid human condition She’d be the one to first make you laugh at yourself, and then forgive yourself for the same hilarious flaw She’s playing it way too safe and glossy here I love looking at Alaska too, but her pics are not soul revealing here and quite frankly; we know what she looks like when the publicly sanctioned drag race era wraps up, Alaska will still be viable with plenty to say and the fearlessness and heart to say it This book was either rushed or just isn’t her sharpest effort There’s little here you couldn’t imagine on your own about her life We don’t need much in the way of why, but the book is seriously lacking in the required “who??” Hey Alasssska can we assssssk you some more questions? We’ve heard this story before I have a feeling there’s a lot more surface to reveal in order to explore your depth Get a little more stupid And leave dull and basic and cute to the amateurs Next time please, get drop dead gorgeous You feel me?

👍👍 for Alaska Thunderf%*\ 5000

If you love Alaska you’ll love her book. She plays ditzy often in her work persona however she’s a critical thinker and has layers of messages in all she does, while having fun doing it.
Lady Bunny has been my favorite queen since the 80s, but nowadays Alaska has wedged her way in and theyre neck and neck. Bunny is savvy, very quick thinking, quite dirty/gross often times, and quite the business person. Alaska is her own person but is that that I described in Bunny as well.
They are both stellar queens.
This is a really great book. I Love it.
I gave for (Christmas) gifts w a gift card inside. They all loved it.
Can be sent to those you love, or even to those more conservative types, whether that be your brother or your boss.
I’ll keep buying more as gifts always
Plus it supports queer artist/ry.

Funny, articulate, and entertaining just like the author

I preordered this book month ago and couldn’t want to get my hands on it. Finally it’s here and blasted through it.
Alaska has always struck me as honest, kind, smart, and driven. This book will take you on a journey to really see Alaska/Justin’s heart. At times I laughed and others there were interesting nuggets of drag history and information to google just to learn more. Alaska breaks down each bit of their life and puts it out there for everyone to read. I very much commend them for accepting responsibility for wrong doings in a heartfelt way too. The photos were all interesting snaps of the drag scene and many beautiful ones of Alaska too.

Compelling

This book is a unique perspective on coming into one's own. I think many people, regardless of their connection or lack thereof to drag, will relate to Alaska's journey of learning to stand in her power and be her most authentic self.
I'll admit, I'm a massive Alaska fan (before knowing about Sharon or drag race or any of that). I'm always down to consume Alaska content and devoured this book in one day.
Bias aside, she's a gifted storyteller. This book is humble, honest, and truly compelling.

Not bad

As many people, Alaska crossed my path via Drag Race. This isn't a fluffy book. It spills the real tea on who Alsaka was and who they are now. They've made mistakes, and been through a lot. Tw for emotional abuse/IP abuse/racisim/homophobia/transphobia/drug abuse/arson. They go into detail about their controversial relationship with fellow DR alum Sharon Needles (which isn't pretty to read) but I found this entirely fascinating.
