Description

About the Author Pat Coleby has been instituting eco-farming techniques in Australia for the last half-century. She practices commercial-scale farming and writes and travels extensively as a lecturer and farm consultant. Early on in her career, she realized that conventional veterinary medicine was far from a cure-all. She recognized that good nutrition is the key to preventing ill health in animals, and her prescriptions of non-invasive, natural remedies resulted in amazing, seemingly miraculous cures in animals whose cases conventional veterinary wisdom would abandon. As word of the success of her natural treatment spread, Pat Coleby quickly became known as an expert on holistic animal care. Coleby has written numerous books on holistic livestock husbandry and land stewardship including Natural Cattle Care, Natural Sheep Care and Natural Horse Care , also available from Acres U.S.A.

Great all around reference book

Though the writer is from "down under" and many of the plants/feed directives are not available in an economic form here in the Midwest, I have found this book indescribably necessary for my small dairy farm.....especially as someone with little to no experience with goats. Here suggestions and techniques are how a person can take care of or prevent problems themselves. Much more useful (and inexpensive) than running to a vet with everything. I especially appreciate the biochemical/biological rational she gives for her suggestions/treatment plans.

Goats with little or no wormer, vaccinations, or antibiotics. Go Natural!

I have just about worn out my first copy of Pat Colby's Natural Goat Care. I use her mineral mix and copper with huge success. We kept goats in the south for 2 full years without having to use any wormer or antibiotics. Our goats are very healthy on a combination of woods browse and grass or hay, and we keep our pastures the natural way Colby recommends. We have raised both meat and dairy goats with these methods. I highly recommend this book to assist in planning and caring for goats, as well as a reference for details of everyday prevention and care.

Every goat owner needs this one

Well written, informative and necessary. We all need to be more careful about how we care for our goats esp. regarding hormone, antibiotics, unnecessary vaccines and chemical laden feed. This bk is a great help to anyone concerned enough to use it.
