in my opinion, NOT EVEN CLOSE

I have been to Romania 9 or 10 times most of this gentleman's opinions are just that opinions. I have not seen of what this gentleman describes of Romania. My humble opinion Romania is the best kept secret of Europe.

A bitter read...

I appreciate what the author is trying to get across; that there are many rough edges, even dangerous sides to life in Romania. However, I found there was a purposeful attempt to put a dark spin on every single experience the author had in the book. I'm going next month and I understood when I was getting the book that it wasn't going to be your typical travel book. I was actually hoping for a less-flowery description so I would not be surprised. This book, however, basically leaves the reader with little or no compelling reason to visit the country. 99% of the author's experiences are depressing or angry. If not for my friends who want to show me their country, I would have wanted to cancel my trip after reading the book.

not really helpful

not helpful for a tourist trip to Romania. Personal experiences are valid perhaps, but not something that you will experience as a tourist.

A fun read, whether stories are exaggerated or not. Part of my prep for a trip to Romania.

This is a terrible book about a fine country

This is a terrible book about a fine country. If you have never visited Romania, you will get a distorted picture of the country and the people from reading this book. It's a series of short stories or incidents involving the author. In almost all of the stories, Romanians are portrayed in a negative light. Somehow, the author has a knack to encounter the worst people there. Maybe that says more about him than the Romanians about whom he writes. It's not a humorous book and the writing is sub-par. I regret having bought and read this book. For the record, I am not Romanian but have visited the country and have deep connections with the people there. They are simple, welcoming people who do not put on airs like this author and many of his fellow English folks that I know and have seen from visiting England. This author should be ashamed that he wrote this drivel.
