Description

"One of the best new Wrestling books" - BookAuthority New Jack doesn't hide anything in this book. From drug abuse to violent crime, it's all in here. He doesn't hold back on any subject and admits to things that other people would never admit to.There are a ton of good quotes from wrestlers, and people involved in wrestling, that any wrestling fan will appreciate. This is pretty much the only wrestling book by a wrestler that I can actually recommend to anyone, whether they're a fan or not. (5/5 stars)-- J.R. Preston, GoodreadsI'm actually amazed about this book... You get to discover the person behind this unique character and only a unique person could come up with such a great, unique, character / gimmick (which could never ever be duplicated), even more than you would by owning and watching every single shoot interview with New Jack / Jerome Young... You get them ALL wrapped into one and just like he's so entertaining listening to, this book is so well written... (5/5 stars)--xa0Jordan Leriche, GoodreadsNew Jack's book is filled with controversial comments, and fans of the wrestler will know what they are getting into with the book. If you are not familiar with his work, you may want to take heed; there is strong language throughout the text, and some opinions are sensitive in nature. It is hard for the reader to have emotion or sympathy for the wrestler, especially when he states he purposely goes out and hurts wrestlers at times (veterans and younger wrestlers), due to them suggesting spots they want to do in the match, and then turns around later in the book and makes comments about how , being a veteran, he doesn't always get the respect among younger wrestlers. The book is filled with these contradictions (New Jack admits he is not a team player when it comes to detailing matches out with promoters), but the book gives a unique insight of the man in a well written text. Jason Norman's writing keeps the book moving along.--- Lance Lumley,xa0lancewrites.wordpress.com/ The late Jerome "New Jack" Young started his career in wrestling on a whim. He then plunged into sports entertainment for over a quarter century, winning multiple titles in a career that took him all over the country, his greatest success coming in both singles and tag team action in Extreme Championship Wrestling for much of the 1990s. He lived in Greensboro, North Carolina.A former award-winning journalist and lifelong wrestling fan, Jason Norman teaches college English in southeastern Virginia.

Features & Highlights

  • You may have cheered him. You may have booed him out of the building. But until now, you've never really known "The Most Dangerous Man in Wrestling." For the first time, Jerome "New Jack" Young opens up about his rise to stardom in Extreme Championship Wrestling. From his crazed dives off balconies and scaffolds to his bloody weapons matches that trampled the line between reality and entertainment, this candid memoir reveals the man behind the infamy, with new disclosures about the Mass Transit incident, the brutal beat-down of Gypsy Joe, and the stabbing of a fellow wrestler in Florida. Beyond the gimmicks that united white supremacists and the NAACP against him, New Jack discusses his violent youth that nearly led him to a life of crime, his career as a bounty hunter, a near-fatal drug addiction, the last months of ECW, and his place in wrestling history.

Extremely entertaining and enjoyable

I really enjoyed this piece of work by New Jack. I was never a big fan of his style in the ring, but I always enjoyed his character out of it. His shoot interviews are always must see. With that being said,I think any fan of professional wrestling and any fan of wrestling autobiographies will enjoy this book. It’s not on par with the classics like Jericho’s,Foley,Hart,or Ole Anderson’s but I’d rank it up there with Flair’s and Shawn Michaels books. Without any sports currently due to what’s going on in the world today with covid-19,this will entertain you and take you away from everything for a little while. I absolutely recommend New Jack’s book

Best Heel Ever !

I watched a lot of wrestling in the 20th century. Mostly WWF and CWF. I grew up watching heels like Killer Karl Kox, Ray Stevens, Ernie Ladd, The Assassins and many more. I saw the next generation of heels such as Shawn Michaels, HHH, and Stone Cold.

No one, and I mean no one, drew heat like New Jack did in Smokey Mountain wrestling. It transcended wrestling. It got the NAACP and the racists on the same side. A great heel like a Blassie or Abdullah the Butcher makes you fear for the babyface. New Jack made you fear for you. It's scary watching a video of him.

But the book presents another side of New Jack. After a horrendous childhood and a morally shaky start, New Jack (Jerome Young) grew as a man. I find him to be likable. Not always perfect though. I won't go into the number of controversial incidents, but what I love about the book is that the incidents are so debatable. Did New Jack go too far? Did the other participant deserve it? What was a shoot and what was a bit of a work?

The book keeps you thinking and it's very entertaining. That's why 5 Stars.

scary

There is no question New Jack provides insider details into ECW. A lot of the information is just plain scary and it suggests they went too "extreme" as a wrestling organization. It is actually well written and is a pretty fast read. New Jack leaves nothing to the imagination and is very self critical when required. I would have rated it a 5 star book except I found the over abundant stories of drug use depressing. Clearly as a fan I had no clue it was so widespread.

Extremely Excellent!

This book was a great read from start to finish. It's nice to finally read something straight from New Jack. The book flows just like his interviews, you get real and raw dialogue from the character New Jack and the man Jerome Young. A must read for fans of extreme pro wrestling.

Good read, to expensive

I like New Jack, but this short read is not worth more than $17.95, definitely not worth $30.
