As you progress you start to hate her, love her

The beginning of this book was promising. My relationship with Carly started as empathetic. She felt trapped in her superficial role as mother and wife. As you progress you start to hate her, love her, hate her again. All the while you feel a twinge of horror at the hardships all the other characters are enduring at the hands of Carly. The book in its entirety is a love/hate relationship with all four of the narrators. I say narrators because the book, instead of being sectioned by chapters is projected by four seperate characters, each as their own voice.
As i progressed in the book i started to feel as though I had to "push through". By the time I got to the cliffhanger I felt exhausted from having to get through the first half. Don't get me wrong, I believe the diegesis here is incredible. The pieces of this mystery were masterfully puzzled together. I haven't read a book that wasn't easy to predict in quite a long time. Some of the book felt daunting but the book over all is worth a read and I highly recommend persevering through the fist half because you do not want to miss what is to come. I must warn you, the amount of sexual encounters in this book is astronomical and it continues through most of the book. If you are a modest reader, this is not the book for you by any means.

Supper was late the day I read this ...

I'm not usually a big fan of psychological thrillers but this one had me gripped from the beginning. Each chapter is spoken by a different character, which works well in taking the narrative forward as well as showing events from the different (but not always truthful) perspectives. A fast-paced story with plenty of twists and turns in a believeable domestic setting. I really didn't predict the outcome until the very end - by which time supper should long since have been in the oven!
Recommended. An impressive first novel. Looking forward to Ms Robson's next book.

A steamy 'Greek Tragedy' of a debut

Amanda Robson's debut is a Greek tragedy for modern times - a steamy mix of paranoia, sex, human fallibility and the law of consequences. Carly asks her husband who he'd fancy if he wasn't with her - a dangerous question to ask, and even more dangerous to answer. But answer he does, and it sets four characters on a path to ruin that you can see as inevitable as you turn the final page, but is devilishly twisty-turny. All four viewpoints are unreliable as narrators - sometimes you see the same incident through different eyes and in different lights. There is some very bad stuff that you don't see coming. An exciting first novel. I picked my copy up at a literary festival.

This dark novel had it all for me, jealousy and paranoia, with lashings of hot steamy sex. What more could anyone want?

Amanda Robson's debut novel is a corker in the psychological thriller genre. There are four main characters, Rob and Carly who are married, and Craig and Jenni. Each chapter is written in the first person POV of one of these characters. It all begins when Carly, during an alcohol-fueled conversation with her husband Rob asks him who he fantasises about when they are having sex. The seed has been sown by the answer given, and an obsession begins to grow dangerously spreading it's tendrils in a way that will put a stranglehold of deception and fear for each of the four characters.
This dark novel had it all for me, jealousy and paranoia, with lashings of hot steamy sex. What more could anyone want? I cannot wait for Amanda Robson's second novel to be released.

Boring

Horrible book that masquerades as a novel, but is nothing but porn. Wasted my money.
