Description

Book Description From #1 NY Times Bestselling Author, Barbara Freethy, comes a romantic new contemporary series about the Callaways, a big, blended Irish family born to serve and protect. The second oldest of the Callaway clan, Aiden Callaway veered from the family tradition of urban firefighting and became a smokejumper, never questioning his choice until the job took the life of his friend, Kyle, and left Aiden with injuries and fractured memories. Everyone blames Aiden for what happened, but he doesn't remember, nor is he sure he wants to remember. The truth may clear Aiden of blame but destroy Kyle's reputation and hurt the people he left behind. Aiden seeks help from an unlikely ally … Sara had always been untouchable, sweet, innocent, his sister's best friend, and the girl next door. But one reckless night in their youth took their relationship to a new level. Sara has never forgiven or forgotten the way Aiden brought it crashing down, but she's no longer that girl with the crazy crush. She's a woman in search of her own truth. The sparks between Aiden and Sara have been smoldering for a very long time. Sara is afraid to take another chance on a man who broke her heart, and Aiden knows better than anyone how dangerous an intense fire can be. As teenagers they weren’t ready for each other. Are they ready now? ** ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS is the first book in an eight book connected contemporary romance series featuring the intriguing Callaway family. and like the rest of his family

Something in me has a HUGE soft spot for heroes. The everyday kind, police officers, firefighters, you know, the kind that go to work everyday and just do their job? Maybe that is what drew me to this series, cause the WHOLE family is in that line of work.

Aiden is a smoke jumper. Yep, he WILLINGLY jumps out of planes into burning forests to put out fires, and like the rest of his family, he is good looking. Sara has always had a crush on Aiden, but he was always her best friends older brother, but maybe there was something more there. And, well, Aiden comes home after something happens on the job and he is trying to deal with it, and Sara need to try and mend some fences of her own, and maybe neither one is as immune to the past as they think.

A great story and great heat, literally! I really enjoyed this one. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, which I have sitting on my Kindle just waiting for me! Don’t be surprised to see the rest of them appear on the blog as reviews!

Sweet Tory

I am a fan of Barbara Freethy and have read many of her books. The settings for her stories take place in the bay area and Northern California where I lived for over 20 years so I feel a slight bit of nostalgia when I read about the beautiful country. The story of Aiden and Sara camping up in Redding brought back a lot of memories for me. I was pulled into the stories of their pains and how they were able to work through their problems. My one BIG complaint is all the grammatical errors in the book. Don't writers have proofreaders anymore? And there are numerous errors!
