Great!

I really liked the setup, the heroine is near thirty and wants to experience pleasure at least once. So she goes to a brothel, that's where she meets the hero. They spend time together, but her identity is a secret, he only knows her as Lady Scarlet. So even though he's determined to find her, he can't. Until his grandmother set up for him to call on a debutante, but it's intrigued by the lady's companion, Ana Gardner, or is she?

I really liked it. I really liked the heroine's background story and diversity, her Middle Eastern heritage and culture is fascinating to read about. The writing was what set me back. It seemed repetitive at times and it wanted to be funny but it wasn't, at least for me. I did enjoy the story and the angst. There were other plot lines that seemed unnecessary and they were solved very quickly.

Good characters

It's been a while since I read a new-to-me historical romance author. I was glad to see the lovely characterization and interesting bits of research. Ana has a different point of view than most Regency heroines because of her heritage and current circumstances. Oliver is a good man who is trying to do the right things even though he doesn't have all the information. Penelope was a fun character, and I was glad when she was on the page. I took a star off because the second quarter of the book lagged while Ana fretted about things that she was eventually going to have to change her mind about. Once I got to the halfway point, the action picked up again until the HEA. I would read the next book in the series.
