Description

Disclaimer: OK. I was sold on this book the minute I saw the title. I am a sucker for any book that will help me get rid of clutter and organize my studio. The Skinny: Here you’ll find ideas for identifying what causes clutter, setting goals to deal with it, and organizing what’s left. Oh, did I forget the best part? Here it is: How to maintain the organization. (That’s the part that gets me every time.) The book is filled with ideas: for what you need (good lighting, temperature, electrical system, and sound control are musts), storing your stash so you can use it, handling all the tools and trappings (books, magazines, UFOs) of quilting, and maintaining your space. There’s a section that deals with quilting-on-the-go (ideas for those who participate in workshops and retreats) and another that talks about storage and display. Bottom line: I got some great ideas (room design, better lighting, fabric storage, packing for retreats), inspiration (to clean up my space and donate what I’m not using), and (my favorite) maintaining the space in an orderly way. Here's a practical guide to help you organize and maintain your quilting space, no matter what size it is. Learn handy ways to sort and arrange fabrics and supplies into easy-to-use stations. See actual organizing solutions from quilters' studios including Alex Anderson and Diana McClun. Learn to identify what's causing clutter and how to turn it into a more creative zone. ( Creative Spaces: Quilt + Sew + Craft, November 2013 ) --This text refers to the paperback edition.

Nothing New, Blah pictures

I didn't find tips like "make sure you put everything back" very helpful. Duh. And I never did find the delicious photos that the author referenced early in the book, warning us not to skip the text in favor of great pictures ahead. Were they not available in the Kindle version? I didn't see one decent picture of a real studio, just stylist-type vignettes of objects.
I imagine the print version of this book is skimpy, as the e-book took about thirty minutes to read, perhaps because there's no new information in here unless you are unfamiliar with quilts or plastic bins in general. There was a lot of coverage on how to store your hundreds of unfinished projects, but that has never been a problem for me, as I can barely do one quilt at a time. Perhaps it's a concern for celebrity pros, but I doubt if they need an organizing how-to. This book was very disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except absolute beginners with money for specialty storage items. I'm more of a Mason Jar girl..

Practical storage and organizing solutions that won't break the bank

This book is all about organinzing and thinning out the overload many of us have. I have multiples of things, not because I need 4 of the same thing but I've never figured out a system of organization to be able to find what I know I already have. Until now! Great reference book to use again and again. It is set up in logical fashion, what to do first, then second, then thirdand even knows where we get sidetracked in the process and what to do about it. Very practical suggestions and also very well explained. I'm lovin' this book!

Issues with Kindle, but innovative ideas

Some very innovative ideas. I find it useful for coming up with organizing ideas, but there are some very glaring grammar/spelling issues in the Kindle version.

Some examples are:
are currently perrnTttedas carry-on items
I keep them stopink1 in a portable...

This is to name a few.

Three Stars

Good information but the pictures were too small.

nothing new here.

I think it is well intended, but there should have been more tips on small items. By the way, comic book boards make great fabric bolt boards.

Organization

The book has very useful ideas that someone who has not looked at an organizational book before would find helpful. Other than that it pretty much uses the same types of organization found in similar magazines/books.

Interesting

I haven't really learned very many tips that I can use in my own quilting room. But maybe others will.

Good source of ideas.

I think this book was very informative and well organized. It did not help with some of my organization problems though.
