Excellent information and beautifully done. A Paleo Library must have.
I am a fitness and health care practitioner and managing partner at a successful training facility in the Boston area. Like many fellow fitness professionals that have adopted the Paleo diet template for their athletes and clients, I have seen this way of eating change lives. Paleo's low inflammatory, nutrient dense approach to eating revitalizes people. We see it improve body composition, health, quality of sleep, and increase daily energy levels and overall quality of life. As Robb Wolf likes to say, people notice improvements in how they "look, feel, and perform." Success stories include dramatic, but healthy, weight loss, return of normal lipid profiles without the aid of statins and blood pressure meds, and effective management, and sometimes reversal, of autoimmune disease symptoms.
I found reading Diana Rodger's Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts On the Go an absolute pleasure. The layout and the photography in this book is beautifully done and the recipes are delicious and approachable. She spends just enough time on critical but often misunderstood principles of ancestral eating (food quality, auto-immune protocols, carbs/starches, dining out, common pitfalls, and has included a great resources section). For me, this is an important characteristic for a Paleo diet cookbook. I am always looking for a resource I can hand to my clients that will support the seminal works I often recommend, (Robb Wolf's The Paleo Solution, Loren Cordain's The Paleo Diet, Mark Sisson's The Primal Blueprint, and the much anticipated end of the year release of Paleo functional medicine doc, Chris Kresser's first book, Your Personal Paleo Code) but is detailed and structured in such a way that it can act as a stand alone resource, and get people on their way with easy on-the-go recipes and insightful advice.
I see Paleo Lunches and Breakfasts On the Go as an excellent entry level Paleo resource with delicious and unintimidating recipes that every ancestral health practitioner will want in their library.
My wife and I have had the pleasure of visiting The Clark Farm, meeting Diana and her husband Andrew, and getting a very informative tour of their family-run farm in Carlisle Massachusetts. It is great to see that she lives what she preaches. I am personally very excited for her next book which reportedly will further address food sustainability.

It's okay sums it up
I was a little disappointed because a big chunk of this book is making sandwiches with lettuce instead of bread. It's not exactly creative, but she does have some fun pairings of items in the book. It gets a bit better when you move towards the soup and salad section, but nothing is particularly ground breaking or making me excited to make it.

Nice recipes, but...
very labor intensive. If I was retired, I would buy this book. The recipes don't work for me because they are not compatible with my lunch requirements: easy to make, easy to transport, easy to heat up, easy to clean up.
I've been making paleo dinners and then freezing the leftovers for lunches. I rotate the leftovers in my freezer and it works out that I eat the food for lunch 2-3 weeks after its been initially made. This is not as good as freshly prepared food, obviously, but it is still paleo...
For breakfast, I make varieties of muffin/cake recipes and some egg/bacon recipes in a muffin pan. That way, I can cook on Sunday and I have something portable and compact to have for breakfast.

THIS BOOK IS YOUR ANSWER!!!
The answer to what you may ask?! Well, this book is the answer, the perfect solution to ‘what should I eat for breakfast and lunch?’ (especially if you are always on the go!) Diana Rodgers has created a book here that is loaded with creative ideas that are ideal for busy families on the run. Many of her recipes can be whipped up in a flash! The ingredients that she choses to include are fresh and interesting, making flavour combinations unique, yet complimentary. If you are growing tired of ‘the usual’, this cookbook will help shake things up a bit. Guaranteed that you will discover some new favourites to add into your meal rotation!
We have cooked several recipes in this book, and have LOVED them all!!! So far, our favs include the ‘Cherry Tarragon Breakfast Sausages’, the ‘Indian-Spiced Roasted Winter Squash’, the ‘Winter Beet Salad with Orange and Fennel’ and ‘The Poached Egg with Tuscan Breakfast Hash’ – oh soooooo good!!! Yummy yums! I can’t wait to make even more out of this stunning book, as many await with neon coloured sticky notes marking their pages.
In the beginning of this book, Diana does a wonderful job of explaining ‘the paleo lifestyle’, in a way that is clear and just makes sense! She does so in a fashion that is concise and is structured effectively under headings that make it easy to understand. Diana also shares with the reader ‘her story’ and how she started down the path to better health. Towards the back of the book, you will find some awesome resources on certain food products/brands she loves, other cookbooks, helpful websites and more!!!
Aside from the amazing content that you will find within the covers of this book, there are a couple more features that make it super wicked! Other things that I adore about this cookbook are the LAY FLAT binding and the manageable SIZE of the book! I know you may think, so what?!…(but really these things are important my friends!) When you are cooking in your kitchen, you can open it up to any recipe, and all the pages will stay put, without closing on you, while on the counter. It’s nice square(ish) shape is great, because it’s functional size makes it simple to toss in your purse or your bag…without weighing you down.
FINALLY, all of these 100 packable meals are actually made with REAL FOOD! It is a welcomed collection of recipes that are rich in healthful, nutrient-dense ingredients. Diana’s book is a true whole food approach, chalked full of delicious dishes that will leave you feeling satisfied and well-nourished!!! XO

As a working girl it is hard to maintain a high diet standard while out of the home. This book is pure food inspiration. It clearly shows the variety of on-the-go recipes that can sustain us and satisfy with great flavors. A wonderful read and recourse in your paleo library.
