A Beautiful Ode to Los Angeles

A beautiful love letter to Los Angeles and all its multicultural neighborhoods and residents. The book reads like a song (not surprising given Lucky’s musical background), and it’s such a pleasure to share a small piece of my LA childhood with my own child.

Fantastic bilingual book

The book mixes English and Spanish without skipping a beat and it all rhymes. Great illustrations and the topic — paletas, is very on brand for the little ones. It’s got Korean BBQ and helping in there, too, so on top of being a really fun read it has good values.

Colorful and descriptive

We love this brand new book! It has been a hit since I got it for my boys for Christmas! Written in rhyme--actually based on a song which I haven't listened to yet!--this is the perfect bilingual read-aloud!! The little boy is on his way on a walk through his diverse neighborhood, looking for the popsicle man. He greets his friends on the way and the chorus repeats delightfully--my boys like reading that part with me. He finally finds the Paletero Man and finds out that he's lost his money! Thankfully his neighborhood friends show up and they've gathered up all his dropped money to bring it back to him. As a celebration of kindness, Paletero Jose decides paletas are on the house for all! Such a sweet message and the most adorable eye-catching illustrations. We love this book!
