Features & Highlights

  • Peacemakers. The Galactic Union’s most capable enforcers and resolute negotiators, their name alone elicits fear and awe among the Union’s citizenry.
  • Having completed a harrowing confirmation mission, Jessica Francis stands ready to become Earth’s first Peacemaker and believes obtaining her commission is a mere formality. However, certain members of the Guild question her ability. Worried that she’ll fall back on her mercenary ways, they want Jessica to prove her mettle at the negotiating table before she puts on the distinctive insignia of a Peacemaker.
  • Dream Worlds are terraformed planets inhabited by multiple species living and working in harmony. Operated by a governing Consortium, each carefully-controlled world is marketed as a paradise, but Araf is far from. The conditions are deplorable, and its three colonies are moving relentlessly toward all-out war over scarce resources and broken promises.
  • A three-way showdown for dominance looms—can Jessica prevent war and bring back peace? One thing is certain; she’s never walked away from a fight, and she’s not going to start now.

Politics at guns' length

The Four Horsemen universe just got a lot deeper!

When I read "Stand On It" in the Fistful of Credits anthology, the ending left me saying, "wait, that was just the *intro*?"

And that's exactly what it is. If you've read A Fistful of Credits, you'll recognize the prologue because Peacemaker includes the last bit of that short story. Jessica Francis is a Peacemaker candidate who exemplifies just how tough, savvy, and cunning you have to be to function as a blend of Judge Dredd, an old-west Texas Ranger, arbitrator and Merc tactician.

She's caught between a rock and a hard place - literally at some points - when she is assigned to negotiate a resolution between three different alien races, their Corporate Overlords, and all the secret Mercenary companies who've been hired by the factions. Jess gets backup of her own, and chaos panic and disorder dog her heels before she's even touched down on the planet in question.

Mr Ikenberry does an exceptional job of keeping all the competing factions distinct and despite all the chaos, I didn't have any trouble keeping track. There were moments that had me laughing and there were some Oh-**** moments too. Overall it adds to the themes in 4HU books 1-4 where aliens take a run at Humanity since we're getting too big for our britches. It's also a change of pace from the previous novels that were primarily focused on CASPer (Mecha Power Armor) combat. This time, the CASPers are "merely" backup.

Buy this book. And if you don't have the first five, what are you waiting for?

Full disclosure: I received an advance electronic copy of the novel so my review could be ready for release day.

Good book

Enjoyed the book a lot.

I'm a late starter to.much of thec4 horseman universe and have large gaps in my books and knowledge. This works as a stand alone and I'm sure as part of the collection.

Jessica wants to be the first human peacemaker but it seems people are stacking the deck against her. But she does have allies.

The Four Horsemen Universe is expanding into a really great series

Peacemaker builds on a character introduced in a short story in A Fistul of Credits and provides an insight to the 'Police' of the Four Horsemen Universe - Peacemaker Guild. Kevin Ikenbeery have made a great addition to Series and I'm hopeful that Peacemaker Jessica Francis can be written into the main story line. A really great read!
