A Heroine of Israel

I often wondered about the unsung female heroes of Israel when it birthed as a nation. This fills in just one of the gaps that allows a glimpse into career choice, reality, relationships, decisions and history. All written in a very frank nonsense style that made me feel like I had a lost a good friend when I finished the book. IF you get a copy, don't let it go - this is easy reading history in the making and a tribute to a fine woman who served her country well.

Couldn't put it down!!

Very Well Written!. This book gives insight into the struggles Israel went through to become a nation. Raquela's story is sometimes heart-wrenching, but always interesting. She was a remarkable woman who lived during a turbulent time. I have a deeper appreciation for the people who carved out this land, the struggles they went through, and the sacrifices they made to create the nation of Israel.

Learn the History of the Early Years of the State of Israel the Easy Way

While learning all about the the life of Raquela, the reader gets a great feel for the challenges placed upon the Jewish people living in Palestine--and later Israel--during the formative years of the rebirth of the State of Israel. Ruth Gruber weaves into her biography of Requela the story of the great men and women who helped form the new Israel. Gruber also gives the reader the fabric of the ordinary people coming from diverse backgrounds throughout the world, as well as long-time Jerusalemites who yearned to create a safe haven for Jews by creating a nation of their own. This is a dynamic way of learning about the heritage of the Jewish people.
