Description

Since 1973, Rick Steves has spent about four months a year exploring Europe. His mission: to empower Americans to have European trips that are fun, affordable, and culturally broadening. Rick produces a best-selling guidebook series, a public television series, and a public radio show, and organizes small-group tours that take over 30,000 travelers to Europe annually. He does all of this with the help of more than 100 well-traveled staff members at Rick Steves' Europe in Edmonds, WA (near Seattle). When not on the road, Rick is active in his church and with advocacy groups focused on economic and social justice, drug policy reform, and ending hunger. To recharge, Rick plays piano, relaxes at his family cabin in the Cascade Mountains, and spends time with his son Andy, daughter Jackie, and his grandson...baby Atlas. No mention of Basel???

I ordered this guide because I needed information about Basel, Switzerland, one of the best places to look at art in Europe. Boy, was I surprised when the city wasn’t included.
Very disappointing!

Disappointing

I bought this for an upcoming trip to Geneva. I always get a Rick Steves book before I travel to Europe. However, all this says about Geneva is to not bother to visit it. Useless to me. Nothing about hotels, restaurants, sights. Very disappointing since the book is about Switzerland.

Surprisingly disappointing

This book has some glaring omissions--not a single mention of Basel or Grindelwald or Fribourg. Very strange and disappointing.

Great Book

I love this little book. It is broken down by towns, cities and areas. Suggestions for walking tours for each city, which I love! Also has suggestions for hotels and restaurants! He says to tear the book apart by section and carry the section that you need for that day, instead of the whole book. Crazy idea, I know, but I think that’s what I’ll do. Has all train info and how to get around also suggestions for itineraries! Overall a great book with a map and all the info you need for a great vacation! Rick Steeves never disappoints!

Great book for researching a trip and to take with you

There was a lot of info contained in this book that helped in our planning for our trip to Switzerland this past October. We consulted it when we got there and carried it with us as we look his walking tours and explored. Will look into his other books as we plan future trips.

Good for big cities

We stayed in Zug and there was virtually nothing about the area in the book. I wanted to read more about Lenzberg Castle…again nothing. Otherwise for people traveling to the tourist areas it was good.

Very Informative.

Liked all the info so we will not be afraid to go out on our own a bit. I DID NOT RECEIVE A MAP in this book. Would have been helpful. that is why i gave it 4 stars. I wonder if there should have been one like in the other tour books we received?

Used this for our month in Switzerland

This was our best friend on our trip to Switzerland. We took the book with us. I would photograph the pages we needed for that day and we would use it as a guide to walking tours, restaurants, and sometimes hotels. The down side is that Rick Steves only travels in summer so some suggestions didn’t work for us in February. We didn’t take his suggestion of bringing shorts!
