Description

"...a well-written and often harrowing tale of love, lust, and little packets of white powder."― ufeffHouston Press "Told with an aching straightforward vulnerability, peppered with massive superstars and seedy hangers-on, this addictive spiral catapults you into what life with an unpredictable rock god is really like. Hooked on each other, the booze-fueled muse and her man, Joe Walsh, take “monstering” to a harrowing level. The writing is so good it feels like spending a chatty couple of weeks with your wildest best friend, spilling oh so many scintillating secrets."― Pamela Des Barres , New York Times Bestselling author of I'm with the Band and Take Another Little Piece of My Heart "Kristin Casey goes straight for the jugular with high-octane tales of rock and roll, addiction, a highly dysfunctional celebrity relationship, and finally recovery...There’s a depth to Casey’s introspection that elevates it above your average “tell all” books...ufeffBuy this book!"― ufeffPatrick O'Neillufeffufeffufeff , author of ufeffufeffufeff Gun, Needle, Spoon ufeff"I knew I was gonna love this book the moment I got to the line, 'Can we please fuck normally now?' And that was within the first dozen or so pages. I mean seriously, what more do you want from a whirlwind romance between a stripper and a rock star? You want drugs, too? Well you're in luck, fancypants. It's like they raided Hunter S. Thompson's personal stash, and then fucked like demons. If this isn't what constitutes great literature anymore, then I give up. If nothing else, read this book and the next time 'Life's Been Good' comes on the radio, you can smile knowingly to everyone around you and say, 'You guys have NO idea.'"― Eric Spitznagel , author if Old Records Never Die: One Man's Quest For His Vinyl and His Past " Rock Monster gives an unflinchingly honest, crisply detailed look into Casey’s years as a young stripper dating a famous rock star. It’s everything you ever wondered about that life and more. Her writing is so intimate and revealing that you almost feel guilty, as if you’re reading somebody’s diary. Her spot on descriptions of the yearnings, the urge to please, her own feelings of inadequacy as well as the insidious slide into drug addiction amidst the glamorous touring life makes this a must read.”― Amy Dresner , author of My Fair Junkie: A Memoir of Getting Dirty and Staying Clean “No vantage point is better than the one on the inside. KC was on the front lines of one of rock’s most decadent eras. She tells her story with skill and detail that will stay with the reader a very long time.”― Marc Eliot , New York Times bestselling author of To The Limit: The Untold Story of the Eagles "Kristin Casey’s moving, honest, and powerful story takes us into a world we’ve all dreamed of being inside―the excitement of life with a famous rockstar, the drugs, the sex, and the romance―and pulls back the curtain to reveal what actually happens backstage."― Kerry Cohen , author of Loose Girl "This ain't no fanboy account, it's the genuine lived experience of Walsh's most intimate relationship. And while you're there check out the pictures! (Walsh may be crazy, but he ain't that crazy!)"― Adam "Slowpoke" Temple , Austin guitarist (The Scabs) Kristin Casey is a writer and recovered alcoholic and addict. Sex Addict Meets Crazy Rock Star…What could go wrong?

Definitely readable, but increasingly sordid tale of a high-octane relationship. It may be more about Kristin than about Joe, but there’s a lot about Joe, too. For his sake, I hope he knew she was writing this book since it borders on privacy invasion. After reading the story and their excesses, it is a wonder either of them survived to tell the tale. How does anyone ingest that level of drugs, alcohol and random sex and still be alive?

Great inside, no-holds-barred read.

I fell in love with Joe Walsh's music after hearing the first James Gang record in 1969, and even more so when I saw them in 1970. In later years I heard all the stories about his excesses but never got the inside story till now. This book isn't strictly about Joe but more Kristin's experience of her life with him - the touring, their life living both together and apart, and yes...the inevitable sex, drugs, and rock and roll. And boy were there drugs. I've been a drummer in rock bands for 55 years and have certainly done my share, but this is a whole 'nother level. She and Joe called it "monstering," and I'd say that's a perfect description. Kristin is lucky to have come through it alive. But this isn't a groupie's perspective. Kristin was genuinely in love with Joe and did everything she could to make it work, which unfortunately wasn't always reciprocated. There were some good times, to be sure, but there were many other moments that told of Joe's dark side. And it got pretty dark at times. But through it all she kept trying to make it work, and was successful for several years despite their roller coaster life. There are great stories of touring with Ringo, and some juicy Eagles dishing toward the end of the book. Plus, this book is well-written. Kristin has a way with words. If you like to read about life in the fast lane, pick this up. You won't be disappointed.

Good read. As close as a person can get to the edge and make it back.

This book was surprisingly well written. I enjoyed Kristin's larger-than-life tale of living with a rock star for 6 years, falling into almost hopeless drug addiction and making it all the way back to a normal life. The famous people she mingled with, the amazing places she visited, the incredible experiences she had is pretty heady stuff, but the core of this story is the resilience and perseverance of this amazing young woman. At the bottom of her addiction I think most people would not have been able to recover. She lived to tell the tale, and what a tale it is!

A good read

A typical rock and roll biography, which I love to read about. This is written by Joe’s girlfriend and took place during his wild and crazy years. He would later claim she was not his girlfriend which is a lie, in my opinion. Sex, drugs and rock and roll and they are both lucky to be alive. The book kept me interested!
