Running on Empty

I give this book 10 stars!! L.b. Simmons completely moved me. I feel like I could be best friends with Alex! She and her girl's stories and banter and ups and downs were very real for me. I fell head over heels in love with Blake!! How could you not? Kudos to L.b. for creating a wonderful, real, beautiful story of love and loss and heartache and forgotten memories and old friends becoming new friends again!
And for showing every woman in the world, especially me, that it's ok.to move on. To begin life again. And most importantly, to love again.

What I love about this book is that it actually about adults with kids and jobs and adult issues. I could really relate to that since I have a family.

I ran through so many emotions while reading. Happiness, hilarious, frustration, and sadness. There one this one particular scene that takes place at the park that was tears and had the sniffles because it was so touching.

Really enjoyed this book could not put it down.Characters were very normal and you could laugh and cry with them.

I really enjoyed this book...couldn't put it down. Loved the relationship between Alex and Harlow...a deep and heartfelt friendship. We all need a Harlow in our lives! Blake, OMG...hot, hot, hot. I loved that he could see through her walls and was patient enough to allow Alex to come to terms with her past and open up to a future. The girls were adorable and so funny. From what I have read, L.B. said that the stories about the girls were true, making them even more entertaining. This is a charming and witty book with moments of angst as well as hope. I thought the book was very well written and edited. Hats off to a new Indie writer. Can't wait to read the next book!

I am so in love with this story! L.B. did an AMAZING job! This book is about love lost, best friendships, family importance, forgiveness and second chances. I mean, hello...sounds perfect, right? YES!

Alex Meyer is a widowed woman of three quirky, beautiful girls. She lost her husband in a tragic car accident, leaving her broken and a single parent left to pick up the pieces and be strong for her girls. The only way she has been able to get through her life since is because of her best friend Harlow. EVERY woman should have a best friend like Harlow. Lord, this woman stole my heart. She doesn't hold back and will tell you things you don't want to hear and will kick your ass when it needs to be kicked...all because she loves you. It hasn't been easy these last three years for Alex and she is so scared to move on, thinking she is dishonoring her marriage with Derek. But on a fateful drive to work one morning, her future walks right up to her without her even knowing it.

Enter Blake Morgan. Doesn't his name just ooze sexy? I thought so too! He is tall, dark and VERY handsome. Alex and Blake have a history that goes all the way back to when they were kids. They were best friends before her and Derek got married and the moment Derek stole her heart, she dumped Blake to the curb. Once he comes back into her life, she begins to remember what a great friend Blake really was, this also surfaces feelings of guilt of how she treated her best friend. As the story progresses they begin to heal the wounds of a broken friendship. What I love about this process is L.B. didn't rush it. I seriously could not get enough of the interactions between these two!

Not only is the interaction with Alex great, but Blake's friendship with the girls blossoms into the sweetest of relationships. They are so young, yet so smart in the way they see the world. They know how much their mom has hurt the past few years and having Blake in her life has really lifted some heavy weight off her shoulders, even evident to her daughters. Getting the green light from the girls, Alex soon can't hold her feelings for Blake back any longer. She's loved him her whole life, how can she not open her heart up again to him?

The evolution of this love story is beautiful. It's real, it's raw, it's soulful and deeply emotional. I found myself laughing out loud, tears falling down my face and serious aggravation with some of these characters. I am a true believer in life that everything happens for a reason and you are in the right place that God needs you to be, this story was exactly that for me, and affirmation to that truth. So thank you L.B. for writing such a beautiful story of life, love and forgiveness.

Such a great story. touched my heart and made me want more. I hope she has a second book coming out soon! I'm dying to know what happens with them :)

of a loving mother, her 3 precious little girls, & starting life over after the loss of her husband & finding love again. When I think back about the book, my mind goes to the end, there is a special scene that will stick with me a long time, writer did a great job!!
