Not perfect, but plenty good enough

I passed the 7 after a week of studying so it deserves 4 stars, regardless of any shortcomings. There is a comprehensive summary of the exam material but the important piece is the practice tests. Don’t waste your time trying to learn the material, it is beyond any human's ability to absorb even a fraction of it. Experienced compliance officers don’t even know all the rules. If you insist on covering the material then it a quick skim and don’t waste more than a day or two. Focus your efforts on taking and retaking practice tests. Don't even worry about scoring the first time through - take a stab at each question, check the answer and absorb it best you can. Keep a notebook for important rules and dates, great for last minute review before the exam. Trust that you will learn the most important material via test questions, not trying to memorize an encyclopedia, and this book should get you across the finish line.

If you still lack confidence after taking the practice tests a couple of times each, then order more tests from somewhere. Give yourself adequate time though - I had originally ordered practice tests via the author's teaching institute and let's just say they're not Amazon (the mailman handed it to me as I arrived home from passing the exam).

As far as shortcomings, this book needs a proper updating and quality review. Even though it’s the latest Dummies version there are lots of errors. Some examples are T+3 settlement for stocks (it's T+2 and has been for years), options expiring the third Saturday (third Friday), max IRA contributions of $5.5k/6.5k (IRS changed to $6k/7k in 2019), 70% corporate exclusions for dividends (IRS lowered it to 50%) and so on. Also many typos and other errors.

Great Book, Very Close to Actual Exam

This book was a huge help when studying for the 7 top-off. It went over the more boring and dry sections of the material(Muni bonds, rules & regulations, etc) in a way that was much more engaging than a lot of other books. Also, the practice exams that come with it, both online and in the book, are very good, and the questions were way closer to the actual exam versus the Kaplan question bank that I had access to through my employer.

All in all a great book, helped me pass on my 1st try. Definitely worth it, especially for less than $20

Helped me a LOT !

I studied for about 2 weeks before taking the practice tests. My first practice exam was in the low 70's, so I reviewed some more before taking the next one. I did that for each practice exam and by the time I took the last 3 online exams, I was scoring in the 80's. I got an 84 on the real exam, so the book and practice exams were pretty accurate! The book was very well written and easy to understand. It was a great purchase. PS: There is a scratch off bar on the inside of the cover that will give you your PIN.

Warning! The Wiley site has many errors!

This is a warning for those folks using this book and the tests online. The Wiley site has some serious flaws. I finished Exam 1 yesterday and was reviewing my answers. The site just deleted all of my Exam info.
Also, two of the questions that I’d seen (thus far) in my review were WRONG. The answer description spelled out the CORRECT choice but the system marked my answer (the correct one) as incorrect, which skewed my score.
It really makes me wonder about the quality of the product. When your job is on the line, you need to know that the system is correct and working properly.
I wonder if the author knows about these errors.

This is the Series 7 book that goes along with the SIE exam. It is written in an easy to understand way and it makes even the more difficult things easy. I was very happy with the way they handled options equations. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking to become a stockbroker or is interested in knowing more about the stock market.

I failed the test the first time through. Bought this book and used it to help me study a second time.
