Description

From AudioFile Carlos Ruiz Zafón has written a masterful novel of hope, mystery, and love, made more superb on audio. Originally written in Spanish, the story begins when young Daniel no longer remembers his mother's face, and his father takes him to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. There he finds THE SHADOW OF THE WIND, a novel by Julian Carax. Enchanted by the book, Daniel embarks on a search for other works by Carax, and eventually for Carax himself. During his quest, Daniel becomes enveloped in murder, intrigue, and love. Jonathan Davis's reading is brilliant, and the book is a certain Audie Award nominee. Davis uses a light, but effective, Spanish accent, offering the listener a remarkable sense of authenticity. Davis imbues Daniel with a mix of reverence and innocence that shines through every word. The audiobook also contains periodic musical accompaniment, composed by Zafón, that works surprisingly well. THE SHADOW OF THE WIND has been translated into 20 languages; with its translation into English, American readers can share the beauty of what is destined to be a literary classic. D.J.S. Oy! I can't force myself to listen any longer!!!

I don't remember who recommended this book to me. I wish I could share this review with them, but I'll have to share it with you instead.

I have been trying to listen to this book for two weeks. The plot (I think it's a plot - hard to tell) wanders so aimlessly that I could not remain interested. I found myself downloading podcasts of random news stories in order to avoid going back to the book. Finally, after what feels like a million hours of listening, I just checked to see how far I had made it through the book. Maybe I'm near the end and something will finally happen? Nope! I'm half way through (disk 8 of 16) I just can't do it. Listening to this book feels like work. Somebody should be paying me to endure it. But, since no one has offered - I'm dropping this puppy in the middle. I can't imagine what drudgery it would have been to force oneself to read a hardcopy version!

The main character and his friend were fun and funny - which is why am giving the book two stars instead of one - and why I kept trying to find out what happened to them, but even they are not worth the discomfort of this hopelessly meandering story.

One of my favorite books & authors!!

I highly recommend this audiobook!
I recommend reading anything by this author & this book in particular! However, the audiobook brings the book to life!
This book has been translated several times over & brought to the book shelves in many countries. The audiobook has music in it that was composed by the author. I've tried to explain how the small clips of music between the chapters actually adds to the book rather than making it take on a silly note, but I ultimately end up lending out my copy & they hear what I'm talking about.
This is one audiobook that is in CD form that I will be holding onto for a long time!
This book is for book lovers & is so intriguing that I can't praise it enough!

A great book

This is one of the best books that I have read. The first time was nearly ten years ago, and I wanted to re-visit the story, so I got the audio version. It's done excellently. I highly recommend the book -- either way!

Just what I expected.

This CD set arrived in exactly the condition as in the listing. I am usually concerned about purchasing unseen CD's but they all played well and I am quite satisfied.
