Description

Years ago, long before I started writing romantic suspense, I wrote a mainstream love story called Coming Home . It was put into print by a very small publisher, read by about twelve people, and quickly disappeared. It was followed shortly thereafter by a second book, Sleeping with the Enemy , which suffered the same fate.xa0 I'm thrilled to be able to share both of these books with readers once again, as the first two books in my ongoing Jackson Falls series. There have been some minor revisions, but the stories remain the same as they were a decade ago.xa0 Both books are available for Kindle and as trade paperbacks.xa0 I'm currently hard at work on the third book in the series, Days Like This , which should be available in late 2012.

Features & Highlights

  • They met at her brother's wedding, and the handsome stranger swept her off her feet. The initial attraction was easy. The trust? That was a little harder. Hard experience has taught Rose MacKenzie Kenneally that men can't be trusted. But when gorgeous high school English teacher Jesse Lindstrom sweeps her off her feet at her brother's wedding, Rose temporarily forgets that she's given up on men forever. Eight weeks later, the unthinkable happens when this thirty-six-year-old divorced mother of two teenagers realizes she's pregnant by a man she barely knows. When Jesse proposes marriage, Rose digs in her heels. She cherishes her hard-won freedom, and no man, no matter how infuriatingly sexy or nice, is going to take that away from her. But her teenagers are running wild in the city. Her ex, Eddie the snake, is too busy with his new trophy wife to be bothered with something as trivial as fatherhood. Luke and Devon need the stabilizing influence of a man like Jesse Lindstrom. So she accepts Jesse's proposal with a few conditions of her own. Jesse wants a real marriage, but Rose is determined to resist his charm. The harder she resists, the harder he pushes, and indifference becomes increasingly difficult. But Rose carries a dark secret, one she's kept hidden for twenty years, a secret that could destroy their shaky marriage. When Jesse faces a serious accusation, Rose is forced to confront her demons head-on. Is Jesse Lindstrom the one man she can trust? Or will she discover that she's sleeping with the enemy?

You know, it's o.k.

Not a big romance fiction fan here, so what I say can be taken in that context. The book's main character is likeable enough, struggling as she does to decide if loving again is worth the risk. Her dilemma seems to be that the male object of her passion is just too damn good to be true, which soon turns out to be the reader's reaction as well. The conflicts that finally test their love to the limit and get them through to the other side are introduced very late into the book, almost as an afterthought, rather than as a central conflict throughout the story, the result being that the first parts of the book seem pretty flat and unremarkable. Once some real conflict actually makes it into the book, its interest level picks up, but by then it's time to end it, and they get over these huge conflicts pretty quickly -- too quickly it seems.

sleeping with the enemy

I have just finished this book a few mins ago. I am so impressed, while I have read almost all of the authors other books this one touched my heart. I wanted to shake Rose at times, and tell Jesse to get his head into the game more, marriage is a work in progress something that has to be a daily event. You have to fight for a good marriage not always give in to keep the peace. Rose's daughter Devon reminded me of my own daughter smart, savey and a rebel until the end. Rose had a moment with Devon and her boyfriend I am thrilled to say, I never had. I think she handled that just right. Can't wait for the next book.

JUST AS GOOD AS BOOK 1!

Another hit! I really enjoyed book 1 and book 2 did not disappoint. Can't wait to read the next one. The only problem is I can't stop reading and it's getting harder and harder to get up in the mornings. Totally worth it thou :)
