  • Sleepwalk with Me is a comedic memoir, but I’m only thirty-two years old, so I’d hate for you to think I’m “wrapping it up,” so to speak. But I tell some really personal stories. Stories that I considered not publishing time and time again—about my childhood, about girls I made out with when I was thirteen, about my parents, and, of course, about my bouts with sleepwalking. Bring this book to bed. And sleepwalk with me.

Very Funny if you can mimic Birbiglia's intonation

I read this in anticipation of seeing the movie soon. I have heard Mike Birbiglia a few times on This American Life and really liked him! The book was no different. However, even more so than when I read [[ASIN:0316777730 Naked by David Sedaris]], I really had to concentrate on mimicking the intonation and mannerisms of the author while reading this book. It read a lot as a transcript, which is fine, but Mike Birbiglia definitely has a certain speaking style that is lost if you just read the text.

When I read carefully like that, it was quite enjoyable. Actually, I liked it even when I didn't mimic him, but not as much. The stories were a good length making it easy enough to get into them but also easy to finish a story in one sitting (usually before going to bed myself). I also found that when he read parts on This American Life, he left off interesting digressions, so even the old material was new and worthwhile.

I Think the Cover is Good

I didn't read the book. But the cover is fun to look at - it has nice pictures of a person in pajamas, and I think that is nice. Four stars.

Laughs and seriousness all in one

This comedian is more sarcastic than funny . Some stories are so serious, but told in a humorous vein..

Better to listen to than to read

I was disappointed with this book. I heard him tell the story about sleepwalking out a window and it was hilarious to listen to, but it didn't really come across on the page. I slogged through the book thinking it would get better/funnier, but it never did.

Really lovely book. Sometimes laugh out loud funny, often sweet and sometimes a little sad. Highly recommend.

Charming, but Not Awesome

I was charmed by Mike's story and his skills as a storyteller, but he doesn't go that deep. So he doesn't go to the next level that makes a truly great work of art. Perhaps that's asking a lot, but you'll likely enjoy this (though my wife liked it less than me).
