One of the better stage 1 books

My daughter saw an image of this book at the back of a chick fil a stage 1 story book ( the ones that come with kids meal) and said she needed to get that next time. HA. I wasn't going to spend my time waiting on chick fil a so I checked out Amazon here. What's great is each book is priced as recommended at $3.99 so one gets a really price here for 5 books. The books are easy to handle and fit into an easy to store box with small circular Velcro closure.

The storylines are cute( list of stories in image), not too dissimilar to the plotlines with other stories in these stage 1 series , the illustrations are adorable and well received by my daughter, a (stuffed) cat lover. I think they are a good length, good sized font for pre schooler to follow, easy for mum and dad to go through 1 to 2 before bedtime without taking up too much time.

Pretty satisfied overall.

Missing one book/duplicate copy of another

The books are nice, but we are missing “Takes the Cake” and have two of “The Duck with No Quack!” Very disappointed & will be returning this set.

Will not build confidence in beginner readers--certainly does not help mine!

So hard to read! My kids can't sit still through these books and I stumble over the words. Each sentence is a tongue twister. Not appropriate for beginner readers, I think.

Not Rob Scotton, but still good!

Our 6 year old reader loves them! I didn't check carefully enough and was a bit disappointed that these are "in the style of" Rob Scotton, by another author/illustrator-- but they are still fun.

Kindergarten-age grandson enjoys this.

Our kindergarten-age grandson enjoys the humor of Splat, and this collection has 5 books he can easily carry when he visits us. Good for beginning readers. This is a good investment - timeless books to be passed on to younger siblings.

Mostly OK but sometimes bizarre

Never thought I'd be the kind of guy who writes a long-winded complaint about kids' books, but here we go.

We bought these for our 2 year old because he LOVES "Splat the Cat and the Ice Cream Factory." Compared to that book, these books have artwork that is clearly digital (fine I guess but it's so overdone it looks surreal at times) and some really weird plots.

"Takes the Cake" and "Sings Flat" are the best two, although I have to wonder why Splat's house is so run down. Why are there holes in the wall? And why is it good when Splat becomes the laughingstock? Instead of being a story about trying your hardest, it's a story about becoming a clown for attention. Meh. Our kid likes the mouse's antics.

"Duck With No Quack" is strange but otherwise OK. Kid's not interested though.

In "Name of the Game," Little Sis is an incredibly poor sport, kind of a bully really, and the story really just lets it fly. No apology or comeuppance, just "well it was all OK in the end."

"Sleep Tight Good Night" is the worst. Splat and Spike are friends in every other book, but in this one Spike is a bully and Splat (rightly) hates him. Why? And Plank's and Spike's faces peering out of the tent are straight from a horror film. WHY DO THEY HAVE SO MANY TEETH? It's like if Tim Burton did a character design for the Cheshire Cat.

Not written as well.

Not the original splat. More of a knock off. My kids are obsessed with the splat books they got from chic fil a but they don’t care for this set at all.

My son loves this writer and laughs with almost every single page

My son got the little books from chick fill A and got hooked with the cat stories. when I saw this, I was really happy because all the stories where new and the books were bigger!. My son loves this writer and laughs with almost every single page ( of course the narrator has a lot to do with it ! lol :) The illustration is very good and its really easy to read and love!

Great Splat Books

Made my kid want to read even more. This was a gift from Santa and my son was super happy. He reads these books to his stuffed animals.

Short, interesting, yet a odd set of books.

I love how short and easy each book is. It's perfect for busy moms & dads and new readers like my 4yr old. The only down side is each book incorporates a small group words into each story. At one point it works...then it sounds odd. It's kinda confusing and a bit silly saying

"Now this is a shame. It's tame and lame!" Said Splat.

Sounds off right? They try to use that grouping of words as much a possible so it starts to sound odd. But they are pretty cheap and a quick read. They are okay.
