A very useful book for beginners and forgetful veteran users

Lucas does an excellent job packaging the up-to-date basic technical details of SSH combined with a narrative of explanation and advice. There is the much older book by Barrett, Silverman and Byrnes "SSH, The Secure Shell: The Definitive Guide" (O'Reilly, 2005) which remains a standard and 'definitive' reference. Beginning Unix/Linux/Solaris sysadmins will especially find this newer book especially useful although with some patience and diligence you can find similar information on the web. Lucas sorts out the chaos of that information for you.

Highly recommended.

From beginner to expert, you can always learn something new from the Mastery series of books, and this one is no exception. Detailed content served with a tad bit of wit and sarcasm to reinforce the knowledge. Highly recommended.

Good SSH reference book

Great reference book if you are setting up an SSH server. As you guys know, a lot of the config file explanations can be found in the manual pages, but what makes this book stand out is that the author writes from his experience about the expectations and consequences of enable/disabling certain settings on your SSH server. Experience is a valuable thing to have on your side when you are new to a certain topic which is what makes this book is great.

For the author: second edition has a small typo on page 144 under markers : )

Flipped pages?

Still reading the book, but so far it has been a good buy. The only thing I can’t figure out is if the pages we’re supposed to be flipped and reverse order...see pictures.

Excellent book

Incredible book. Relatively concise without being too dry. Well organized and well written. I can't speak highly enough of it. The cover got me a lot of weird looks. It's one of the very few that I actually read cover to cover rather than just using as a reference.

Great Book for your collection

If you would like to learn about openssh, you can't go wrong by purchasing this book. The printed version is well constructed, and is nice to read. The book contains a wealth of information and is organized in a coherent manner. The cover art is a bit odd, but who knows, you may like it.

Great content. Poorly printed.

Received the book in good condition.
Great information on secure shell and encryption.
Text printed slightly diagonally on all pages. Not straight. Annoying but doesn’t affect ability to read the content.

A must read

I bought this book after Jay from Learn Linux TV called it a must read for IT professionals. I truly didn't know how much I didn't know. Quality recommendation from Jay and Tom Lawrence.
