Features & Highlights

  • It's a beautiful day and all of the animals on the Savannah want to know one thing: Why is Steve the Dung Beetle rolling that big ball of poo??
  • Steve is hard at work rolling a ball of poo past the river, over the hills, through the trees, and all the way to his home. Along the way he meets many of his animal friends, like the elephant, giraffe, warthog, and others. They all ask him the same thing, "Hey Steve! Why are you rolling that ball of poo?" Join Steve the Dung Beetle on a hilarious and educational journey, as Steve teaches all of his friends why he is constantly rolling poo, how it helps each of them, and why his work is so important for the environment. This beautifully illustrated book is the perfect combination of entertainment and education. Parents and teachers will appreciate the important information this book provides, while kids will fall in love with Steve and this truly unique bug-based adventure! Ideal for kids ages 3-10 and grades K-3, this book is filled with mind-boggling facts, much like Krystal Monique Toney's
  • The Fascinating Bug Book For Kids
  • , and National Geographic's
  • The Ultimate Bug-Opedia,
  • as well as a page full of side-splitting jokes at the end. Suggested ages: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, and grades K-3

More factual than entertaining, but still cute

I was expecting this book to be more of a humorous story, but other than mentioning poop on every page (which admittedly works for kids’ humor) it’s a fun science/nature book with really nice pictures. Not so much of a story, though.

Great educational humor

A simple but wonderful story that teaches the importance of the lowly dug beetle in the ecosystem. Children will find this "gross" topic told with humor very entertaining and memorable.

Not worth buying. Check it out at your library

My 5 year old loves bugs of all sorts - I mean LOVES them - but is most excited by beetles, So we bought this for him for his Christmas book (each kid kids a book each year)

The picturescare great! The writing is... Not great. My son was underwhelmed after reading it once... Honestly he would have just walked off, but I told him we were almost done so he stuck it out.

The book has not been read again since. I've suggested it but always get an "eh, not that one" answer. I just read it to myself again to see if it was as boring as I remembered and it absolutely is. Worse the second time actually.

Will be donating it to our library.

Moderately interesting. Good illustrations. Benefits of dung beetles overstated.

I liked that the wildlife in the illustrations were pretty correctly illustrated. It overstates a bit to say that by picking up dung, the beetles preserve clean water. I expect the poop jokes will be a hit with many kids.

It is well written and illustrated. My Granddaughter listening about Steve the Dung Beetle.

This book is fun and educational. The wonderful illustrations and story tell the life of Steve, a Dung Beetle. The topic itself brings peels of laughter from youngsters. I recommend it.

A fun read for my four-year-old

This is a fun, educational read for my poop-obsessed four-year-old. We do a lot of learning about nature and bugs in general, so this ticks the boxes for us.
