Features & Highlights

  • "Catnip for all the TED fans out there." —Publishers Weekly "Unimpeachably practical . . . A handy guide for novice and moderately experienced speakers." —Kirkus Reviews "Anderson shares the secrets behind the best TED presentations." —Booklist Since taking over TED in 2001, Chris Anderson has shown how carefully crafted talks can be the key to unlocking empathy, spreading knowledge, and promoting a shared dream. Done right, a talk can electrify a room and transform an audience’s worldview; it can be more powerful than anything in written form. This “invaluable guide” (Publishers Weekly) explains how the miracle of powerful public speaking is achieved, and equips you to give it your best shot. There is no set formula, but there are tools that can empower any speaker. An Essential Speaker’s Tool

Every speaker needs effective tools. TED Talks: The Official Guide to Public Speaking is a critical and an essential tool. The book’s instructions are based on TED (Technology, Entertainment and Designed) conferences. A nonprofit organization devoted to sharing ideas in short powerful talks lasting less than twenty minutes. The book is true to form. It’s educational! The convincing and confident language tells what you’re doing wrong and how to get it right as a communicator. How many public speaking resources are available that can teach you to say all that you need to in eighteen-minutes? Chris Anderson does in this speaking guide. The book is refreshing with details, as it tells the reader what is needed to be an empowered speaker-- an idea, a message, humor, voice, posture, and how to engage the listeners. According to Anderson, effective speakers give gifts and presents to their audiences. They don’t beg or promote themselves, they promise to inform. In five chapters, the author provides the tools for developing an idea, making it personal, preparation, delivering the speech, and reflecting on the aftermath. If you’re doing a lot of presentations or speaking or if you want to step-it-up a notch, this resource should be on your bookshelf. Chris Anderson uses an inspiring and motivating style, supported by other TED Talk speakers. There’s a webpage reference appendix in the book of TED Talk’s speakers online that’s just wonderful. Read TED TALKS, and SPEAK! Recommended!
