The only one

It is not really needed but I will chime in and say it is the first drinks book I got, and the only one of the many I now have that I use. The others are OK for specialty applications but the sheer number of drinks in this one makes it an amazing experience. stellar are the introductions to each base ingredient section; how is gin made; is whiskey and whisky the same thing? Etc etc. A great buy!

What, no Hurricane?

This is a dandy book, great mainly for its advice on setting up your home bar. It's got all the real classics -- the Gibson, the Manhattan, the Negroni, the Gimlet, the Sazerac... but most of its trendy modern mixed drinks are clearly English (the names are often the give-away). An interesting picture of what they're drinking in England, but I was surprised at what I /didn't/ find (the above-mentioned Hurricane, for example).

Now, if only I had better skill at making cocktails...

Everything you need to know on making mixed alcoholic drinks, divided into easy to use sections.
I don't have a bar in my dorm room (got space in and on top of my mini-fridge though), but that doesn't stop me from mixing drinks and inviting friends over for a game of "Thunder". And without this book, I'd still be drinking Coors (ugh!).

Three Stars

This book is great but the way the drinks are listed makes it hard to look up.

Not what I had expected

This bOok was filled with good information about bartending tools and strategies. What it was lacking was recipes for any actual drinks people may order. Many of today's most popular drinks were not in there, such as cosmopolitans, gimlets and long island iced teas. That's not the end of the list of what was missing. If you want to be a bartender and you're looking for a book to start with this is NOT the one you want, keep looking.

A Must Have For Bartender's

My daughter just completed a training on the basics of Bartending and recieved her certificate in it upon completion. I presented this book to her as a way for her to stay aware and informed of everything she needed to know about Bartending and beyond. She was very grateful for the resource and the way inwhich it was designed and written. She feels she will hold on to this guide for a long time and will refer to it often. I received the book in the time that was identified and in the condition that was described and both of us are more than pleased with this purchase. I would indeed recommend this product.

The 1991 edition, bought used

I bought this used, and received the 1991 edition. Understandably, it's a bit dated (though I tend to like older cocktails). The recipes seem OK (to my very amateur eye), but good luck finding a more "modern" drink if someone asks for one. The print, unlike some bartending books, is a readable size, which is good. I may get the Hellmich book or the Krigbaum book if I find myself entertaining more than I do.

I hated it couldn't find the up to date drinks in there
