Wow!

This is a truly spectacular graphic novel version of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine film. The illustrations by Bill Morrison are truly glorious. I have seen the movie many times including the 2018 theatrical release. Reading through graphic novel version I realized that even after repeated viewings, I had missed quite a bit of the very clever word play. This is an absolute delight for Beatle fans, fans of the film, and any one interested in a beautifully illustrated, clever story.

Overall good

Product as described and arrived on time.

I just wanna say if you havent seen the movie you might not understand how some scene transitions happen. There are a few places where they are in trouble and then you turn the page and everythings better. That is to be expected though in my opinion because obviously the music scenes are removed and some of those scenes in the movie show how they get out of a trouble spot. So if you have not seen the movie there could be confusion. Other than that is a good adaption. The art is great and its got just the right amount of jokes. My favorite character other than the beatles is the nowhere man, i like how it speaks in poems!

Superb rendition of an animated classic!

The mythic Beatles and their power was never better captured than in the 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine -- incredibly, made while the band was still in its heyday but already legends. I didn't have high expectations for this graphic novel (i.e., comic book) version of the movie -- a fairly dire comic book was produced in 1968 -- but sample pages persuaded me to pre-order this months ago and now that the book is available, I am not disappointed at all. In fact, I'll go on to proclaim this the BEST "graphic novel" EVER done on the Beatles (not that the list is very long or very impressive). The pages are oversize and the amazing art leaps at you like a true psychedelic experience. Images and references from the movie are carefully and artfully recreated, from the whimsical characters to the dazzling colors to the fluid panel designs and layout. The music sequences are pretty much ignored or left out, which is a shame, but perhaps it was felt they would interrupt the flow of the narrative, which follows the film plot and script pretty much intact, with only a few interjections. This book is the perfect printed accompaniment to the movie and Pepperlanders of all ages will treasure it.

Well Done

Beautifully drawn, well written and overall a fun experience. Wish there were more Beatles comics like this to follow. I really enjoyed this more than the film :O And no, you don't need to see the film to read the graphic novel (comic book, lol), as the book is much easier to follow.

Fans will be pleased with this adaptation

For those who haven't seen the movie, I'd of course recommend watching that first, but for those who have watched it (probably everyone reading this, to be honest), this is a very fun and faithful adaptation. All the designs for the characters and landscapes look just like they do in the movie, and in the few places where the dialogue differs, it still very much fits with the original's whimsical and humorous tone. Particularly welcome additions are the many punny references to Beatles songs. And no, there's thankfully no cringy attempts to make jokes pandering to a contemporary audience.

Of course, the biggest difference is the lack of an accompanying soundtrack, and most of the visual sequences in the movie that played during the songs aren't present. However, there are extra bits of narrative exposition in some places where these omissions would otherwise be confusing, and these are still fun, such as when Pepperland is brought back to life thanks to the power of song.

In the end, this should be everything fans of the film could hope for in a graphic novel adaptation. It's about a thirty minute read, so it can very easily be enjoyed in one sitting. I'm a little new to the world of comics, but $20 is a very reasonable price for its enjoyability, length, and the quality of the print and pages. As a cherry on top, they include some pencil sketches in the back from early drafts. All im all, this is a very enjoyable way for fans to experience the classic Yellow Submarine in a different and fresh way to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
