The Big Purple Book of Beginner Books (Beginner Books(R))

Perfect for a 5 year old. She enjoyed reading it. Love the price too. Those books bought separately would have cost much much more!

I love these books individually and I suppose I should have read the add more carefully. I was under the impression that all 6 books came in some type of case or together in a large cardboard type of cover, but it is one story book with 6 stories in it. Non the less theses are great classic stories to have. I again assumed that since it said beginner book that they were the hard cardboard type, like for toddlers but it comes with normal paper pages which is still great. Overall, you cant go wrong for the price and if this is what you are looking for (based on my coments) then this is a great buy...

Bought this book along with two others of the same name (different "color"). I have a 5 yr old daughter and a 6 year old son that are learning to read and practicing with the reading that they know. They love these books. I would definitely recommend to anyone with young children that are wanting some beginner "first books". I actually remember some of the books included in these sets from when I was very young. So apparently these books can have a very long lasting fond memory for your children. My daughter just keeps wanting to read them over and over and each time she gets better and better.

My toddler loves these books and loves even more the BIG Book of Beginner Books series as it creates a loophole in the "One more book" bedtime limit of nightly reads. She isn't literate yet so she points at the pictures on the cover to choose the book she would like to read. It's a great selection of books. While the appear long, the reads go by fast (perfect for bedtime) and are entertaining enough for parents to read over and over again. We love it but just be aware that as a gift you might be torturing a parent that is now exposed to six books rather than one

Purchased as bedtime stories for my 1.5 and 3 year old daughters. They like the all you can read buffet style story books. We have several of the “BIG” Seuss books and have liked them all so far. My favorite story is “Flap Your Wings” about a bird family that accidentally raises an alligator. My 3 year old is particularly fond of the Fred and Ted stories. Cute book collection that I believe was only about $10 which I fantastic for everything you get. I recommend this for toddlers especially if they are animal lovers.

I purchased this book after buying the Bog Blue Book of Beginner Books from Walmart. These stories are excellent for beginner readers because they have the right size font, easy sentences and themes (love the rhymes) and the books use the most frequent sight words which builds the child's recognition of them quickly with repeated reading. The price of the Big Purple Book was also $4-$5 less than the price I paid for the Big Blue Book. I would highly recommend these. The stories in this book are DRA level 16 & 18/Guided Reading Level I & J.

My son loves the set of the Big Beginner Books by Dr Seuss. We read them for bedtime and now he "reads" them to me from his memory. So cute! I definitely recommend these books. Easy to read, understand and my 3 year loves them.

I am a teacher and I purchased the following 5 books - The Big Purple / Green / Red / Blue Book of Beginner Books and My Big Book of Beginner Books About Me. I believed that they were BIG books!! The size should have been posted as fat not big, because I do have other books of this series with different titles and they are BIG!

My first grade daughter loves this book to read! We have ordered all of the color beginner book series! It makes a great book to bring along on a trip or have around at the house. I tell my daughter that she needs to read a story everyday on her spring break before she can watch tv… The stories were perfect for her level. I read some of the harder ones first and then she was able to read the rest on her own after that. 10ish dollars for 6 great stories with a hard cover is great!

I love the rhyming and short stories that Suess books are famous for, and this is no exception! Wonderful little stories that make us smile. Easy for big brother to read to little sister :)
