Description

"The Black Girl's Guide to Financial Freedom is a great roadmap to mastering your money - and learning a lot about yourself in the process. With practical advice and a solid dose of big sister wisdom, Paris Woods shows you how to check your financial assumptions, reframe unhealthy attitudes about money, and figure out the best path for your unique financial journey." —Lynnette Khalfani-Cox, The Money Coach(R), author of the New York Times bestseller, Zero Debt: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Freedom "Paris knows what it's like to struggle. Raised by a creative and resilient single mother who managed to raise 6 kids on a $40,000/year secretary's salary, she learned valuable financial lessons that she imparts in this book. With actionable advice on buying a car the smart way, going to college debt-free, investing, and achieving financial freedom via different paths, Paris's relatable guide will teach you how to build wealth and live life on your own terms." —Kristy Shen, co-author of Quit Like A Millionaire "Creating financial freedom requires taking a slow cooker approach in a microwave world, as Paris Woods shows us. This book will teach you how to reframe your thoughts, build resistance and resilience, work through your numbers and take immediate action. It's a must-read for anyone who wants to learn the basics -- both in theory and in real-world application -- about how to move towards a life of financial freedom." —Paula Pant, host of the Afford Anything podcast "What makes this book stand out among the vast library of financial self-help coaching karma is the author's very personal and compelling experience, and her ability to frame that experience in a larger social context. Like any good coach she is relentlessly optimistic, but goes deeper to see a larger context. Her aim is to give not only encouragement and advice but perspective, to protect you from - and help you to overcome - your own biases or naivete. And she succeeds. Paris Woods has made a valuable addition to the vast collection of advice that's out there." —Rachel Siegel CFA, author, Personal Finance , v 3.1 (Flatworld, 2020 [2010]) "Paris's personal financial stories are relatable and her journey from debt to financial freedom is inspiring for women of any age." —Kiersten Saunders, co-creator of rich & REGULAR

It’s a must read, re-read guide for financial freedom

This is by far the most relatable financial education book I have read, and I’ve read many by the likes of Robert Kiyosaki and Suze Orman. The author, Paris Woods, breaks it down and gives straightforward advice that will prevent you from making financial mis-decisions that will put you 000’s of dollars in debt, encourage you to build wealth and inspire you to retire early by joining the FIRE movement. It’s a must read, re-read and book you should reference whenever you need a reminder of your financial freedom goals. Basically, if Yoda wrote a book on how to live the life of your dreams, this would be it.

Learn to control your spending behaviors

This book would have been great for me during my college years when I made silly mistakes . Now that I am a woman in my career, it still serves as a reminder of what to do and not to do to stay away from intense debt. So yes this book is great for younger women ; but many women in their late 20’s and 30’s may need this info if it wasn’t taught to them . So yes. I am on my journey and the book is a condense book of other financial books . So , it helps . I will pass this information to my younger female friends and students that I teach .

Pay it forward

I really relate to this book. Being that I was a black woman who went through college and finances with no type of guidance and made some of the same mistakes as Paris. I’ve also made “new mistakes” that made me the woman I am today and the woman I will be better at in the future. I am so happy to pass the wisdom that I earned down to my daughter. Whatever I am unable to explain, I hope this book can. My daughter will be entering college soon and she wants to be a vet. I really enjoyed reading about the medical school scholarships, how to get a full ride with 100% of tuition coverage, and much more. Not living rich and dying broke.

Creating a realistic path to generational wealth

Ms. Woods has a very authentic way of connecting with her audience as she takes them on a journey into some difficult aspects of their lives. I truly enjoyed learning from her experiences, and the way she seeks to empower women to get real about the changes they need to make in their lives of they want to create wealth. Being debt free is just one aspect of generating wealth. Ms. Woods encourages her readers to do some soul searching and evaluating to create a vision and plan for the life they want to lead. This was not easy for me, but I'm excited to do the work thanks to Ms. Woods guidance and real life examples.

Great resource for teenagers and young adults

There is a reason this book is titled “The Black GIRLS guide to financial freedom”. I am half way through the book and I still haven’t learned any new information. I think this book would be a great gift and resource to young women between 17-23. I am 26 and this is information that I discovered along my journey to adulthood as well. Great information and easy to read but so far not so helpful as an already established adult.

Good book so far

Haven’t finished the book but it’s good so far. It really is something that should have been given to my younger self (I’m in my mid 20’s now). The world has failed us in teaching young minorities, especially women the steps needed to reach financial freedom. The amount of debt I have now, is ridiculous- many it appears, could have been avoided.

A must READ!

I’m 25 years old and this book is very helpful when it comes to having a guide on how to be financially free. This book is a must need for all black girls getting out of high school or 18! If I had this back then I would’ve felt more prepared when it came to my finances now. However, I can say that this book prompts you to think about things from a different perspective and the details on how how to get started on a financially free life is just Amazing! Just go get the book!
