much like Warren Jeffs

Spoiler alert...it was all made up. This book is a ponderous bore. It was written by a cult leader who married dozens of women to himself, some were under the age of 18 and some were still married to other men. If Joseph Smith were alive today he would be on the FBI's most wanted list, much like Warren Jeffs. Joseph Smith has more in common with Jim Jones, David Corresh, or Brother Doe than he does with Jesus Christ. Good luck trying to pass this book off as scripture to the public because the truth is out there about the mormon church and no one, other than other mormons, is interested.

Obvious Fraud

This book is an obvious fraud. It makes outlandish claims that have been proven to be false such as the american indians being directly descended from Israelites and their skin being dark because they were cursed by God. Mark Twain once referred to this book as "Chloroform in Print" and he wasn't exaggerating.

literally psychotic---yet what amazes me is that people believe it!

I am a therapist who works with many unmedicated psychotic people (with schizophrenia, etc.), and I'm used to hearing a lot of floridly delusional material. What surprised me about the Book of Mormon was how psychotically it reads. I think that's because it IS psychotic (that is, delusional---grossly out of touch with reality). I wasn't expecting this when I opened the book.

But what really surprised me is that this psychotic material became the foundation for a major world religion. Of all the psychotic people I've worked with not a one has ever culled a following, let alone others who heart-and-soul believe in his or her ultra-delusional material. (Of course, there is such a thing as "shared psychotic disorder," but I haven't seen it.)

This all makes me wonder what was up with Joseph Smith. Although I'd still say he was psychotic, at the least he was very unusual as far as psychotic people go!

Wish I could have been there to meet him myself!

P.S. I got this book for free by calling the Mormon Church. Nice of them to send it to me, but I am annoyed with all their follow-up calls, considering I explicitly asked them not to.

Worst Bible fan fiction ever

Mark Twain had it right when he said that The Book Of Mormon was "chloroform in print."

A handful of Moral Metaphors

As a direct decedant of the author of this book (and original leader its subsequent related organization of which I am a former member) I can tell you that the only valuable contents herein are a handful of moral metaphors not too far removed from teachings found in Star Wars. In between these teachings you find horid, incomprehensible, mind numbing repetition of simiple phrases and/or direct quotations from the Bible. Lastly, note that you can recieve a free copy of this publication by submitting yourself to what I akin to a timeshare presentation...only they are selling salvation. Purchase at your own risk!

The good news is that in the last days (anytime now) ...

This book teaches us so many valuable lessons. The most important lesson we learn is that the reason Native American have dark skin is that their previously white and delightsome ancestors were cursed because their sins. The good news is that in the last days (anytime now) they will turn to the true gospel of Mormonism and their skin will again become white and delightsome instead of black and filthy (seriously, it says that). If you pray about it the spirit will witness to you that what the book says is true that you can even go teach the Native Americans the true gospel so that their skin will no longer be dark. Get after it everyone!!!

The most correct book of any book on earth?

It's tough to beat Mark Twain's three-word review of the tome: Chloroform in print. As a former true-believing Mormon, I understand church members' dedication to the book. It just HAS to be true. Members are challenged to read it cover to cover and share its message. It's not even interesting as fiction. As a member and missionary of the church, I forced myself to read it a few times. The outlandish truth claim of Joseph Smith himself is that it is "the most correct of any book on earth". For being so correct, it sure has undergone lots of changes, some grammatical, some spelling, some HUGE doctrinal shifts, such as Trinitarian vs. Unitarian dogma. DON'T buy the book, you can find several at any thrift shop. Ask any of the 80,000 missionaries walking the streets of the planet for a free copy. I DARE you to get through more than a few chapters before nodding off.

Historical Fiction written like the bible

Read it. Its presented as a factual spinoff from the bible. It is not. Just know that it is fiction written like the King James Bible. Fun...
