Not what I hoped for.

When I bought the book I was wanting a cookbook for meals over a camp fire. That is camp cooking to me. The cover says "Inspired Recipes for Cooking Around the Fire and Under the Stars." I did not realize that meant bringing a camping kitchen out to the wilderness. All of the recipes require a lot of ingredients and a lot of prep at home. If you were to make these recipes I imagine it would be very expensive to purchase the massive amount of ingredients. I'm not sure people want to head out to the wilderness and bring their entire kitchen and spend their entire days preparing and cooking these meals. I did give two stars because the book cover and quality of the book is very nice. Sturdy pages and the cover is pretty darn cool. Hope this helps. I will probably be returning this book and buying something more along the line of what I am wanting which is low maintenance and over a campfire.

Fun "Gourmet" camping cookbook and more! 5 stars plus!

I recently purchased 3 highly rated (on Amazon) camping cookbooks, as an excited inspiration for next summer's Airstream trip to the US East coast and Northeast Canada. Can't wait!! This, by far, was my very favorite camping cookbook. The intro reads, "for survivalists with standards" and that is the key to this wonderful book. I love the outdoors, camping has always been a favorite activity since my husband and i got married many moons ago. Nowadays, my friends and I always "gourmet camp" and if you are into that, this book is for you! It is SO much fun, besides recipes (trail snacks, adult beverages, sides, breakfasts, main meals) it has games and many useful real suggestions for things to make your camp experience perfect! I laughed out loud reading many of the chapters, its like reading your funniest girlfriend's (or guy friend's) very useful and very original camping suggestions. Just loved it so much I'm purchasing 4 more copies to send to my camping buddies..its January here but this book inspires laughs and dreaming about that next camping trip.. it is truly wonderful. If you enjoy the outdoors and camping..but still enjoy your yummy food and drink, this book is for YOU! It's more than just a cookbook...its a whole camping experience. It's a little getaway. Plus, the chapter on different combos to make S'Mores... priceless! Just loved this book. Cannot wait to try out the recipes and cooking techniques. Nothing too complicated and lots of great advice. The recipes look easy and amazing combinations. Happy Camping!

Fun book to flip through

Maybe the most unique and interesting rubberized hardcover book feel I've ever come across.

Most of the recipes have an 'at home' component, I'll be using it more as an idea generator for backyard-campfire cooking than actual recipes I'd try to execute at a campsite. Fun book to flip through, casual fun tone from the authors, and seriously high quality hardcover materials for the price.

... you lost me at "steelhead roe"

Raise your hand if you have ever packed Steelhead Roe in your cooler for a weekend camping trip. That's what I thought.

if you have ever been camping (the right way), you know campfire cooking is all about simplicity - minimizing ingredients (and space and weight) but maximizing flavor. There is nothing appealing about packing in a majority of these recipes with loads of ingredients and prep time.

The majority of these recipes are fit for a five-star kitchen, but unfortunately won't hit my campfire sing-a-long anytime soon. We're good with plain ol' S'mores.

Delicious-sounding recipes, but impractical

I looked through this book right after returning from a five-day car camping trip. If I had made these recipes I wouldn't have had time to do anything but cook and wash dishes on the trip. Don't get me wrong, there are many delicious-sounding recipes in this book. But many of them are just too impractical; for example the "four-cheese, fennel, and lamb bolognese lasagna" has 20 ingredients and requires a lot of at-home preparation AND on-site preparation. Also, nearly every one of these recipes requires you to cook over a campfire. Not only are campfires hugely high-maintenance, they are banned for a good chunk of the summer in many places around the west, and rightly so since campfires are the cause of many a wildfire. I'll be looking for a camping cookbook that focuses on cooking over a campstove, which is more efficient anyway.

Beautiful book

This book just makes me happy. The cover is beautiful and feels so nice in your hands, the art work is sweet, and the recipes are good. Some are fancy, some are not, and there are a lot of neat tips. Buy this if you love cookbooks.

Wonderful and entertaining ideas and tips to prepare for a fantastic camping trip!

I bought this book as a "camper warmer" gift for a friend who has a new mini-Airstream, and when it arrived, I couldn't resist perusing it myself. Everything about this book is beautiful, from the lovely textured cover, to the how-to sections on how to pack the best camping kitchen and pantry. This books is charming, entertaining and full of wonderful ideas for how to prepare a wonderful camping trip! My next camping trip is in two weeks (when I plan on gifting the book to my friend) but you can be sure I will use the tips for myself before I head out!

Beauty & Brains !

You’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover... but look at this thing! It’s gorgeous! I have it sitting out anywhere in my home for a little flair ;) . BETTER than that... it’s chock full of useful information! Keep in mind some recipes are for the camp out and some are for making at home to take with you (good lasting camp food). Someone who hasn’t been past the beginning of the book may not know better. I like that it’s in sequence and talks about pre-camp. The recipes for camp also have an at home method so you can enjoy these anytime. I’m a sucker for illustration and these are gorgeous. This book is just art to me... I haven’t gone camping in a while but this helps me get in the mood when I’m getting a craving for it. LOL i might need a new copy if I DO go camp soon because I really don’t want a speck of dirt on this beautiful thing. Such an art piece, I love it so much

Feels great in your hands and is an overall good reading experience

Listen, I'm just gonna be real here.... I saw this book at a local bookstore and was absolutely drawn to the cover. It just feels nice and has almost a wood grain texture! I wouldn't even necessarily call it a cookbook, its much more than that. There are stories and other helpful camping hints in there as well. Some of the recipes seem a bit much for me, as I'm normally a scrambled eggs, hot dogs, and marshmallows type of camper, but I could see that with this book and some proper planning, it would be a great thing to use prior to and on a camping trip with the family.

I docked 1 star simply because like I said the recipes seem a bit weird to me and a little ingredient heavy, but the book is still a good value and a good reading experience.

Keep it forever and use it often.

The cover and material are gorgeous, it's a soft leather feel with great color. I love the images in the book, all sketched with color. The advice outside of the meals is fun and interesting, such as how to camp in your backyard, camping with young ones, dogs, etc. This will be a gift to many people this year in my life.
