Readers grow attached to the characters.

This is the best book I have ever read. Murphy's descriptions allow the reader to have vivid pictures of the characters and the places. I can picture Melissa's multi-colored hair and feel her pain when she is captured as a little cat. Even though Alice is never in the book, I fell Braden's and Melissa's sorrow about her death. Murphy develops Braden's love for Melissa as a person and as a cat. By the time I finish reading the book, I have grown very attached to Melissa, just as Braden grows attached to the little cat I would reccommend this book to people who like fantasy and romance.

Wonderful mix of of fantasy, mystery and intrigue

Catswold Portal is a wonderful book for both fantasy lovers and cat lovers alike. The main character is a female named Melissa with the power to change into a cat. As the story progresses, Melissa must work to face her fears, find her loves, and live her dreams. Everything imaginable is included in this fantastical fantacy: love, betrayal, humor, fear, passion, revenge, loyalty, trust, deseption, friendship, and the ever-present impossible dream - to find yourself.

The Catswold Portal

I found this book to be exceptionally original. As a reader of SciFi Fantasy for over 25 years I can say that this one is a keeper.. ( I have just finished it for a 3rd time) The only problem I have is finding out if there are anymore books about the Catswold and the Netherworld, if not Ms Murphy should sit down and start writing them. So many of her books are also out of print. I can only say I will be heading for the library.

An excellent adventure book with a feminine role. Really?

In this book the author weaves a beautiful and riviting tale of a young girl who is, unknown to herself, a queen of a magical race of creatures called Catswold. The story follows the adventure she undertakes to find out the story of her childhood and proud heritage.

I seriouly enjoyed this book. It is, however, a more adult book or young adult book then the title might indicate. The premise of this book is highly original and all and all a book well worth your time. It's rare that a books can double as an adventure book and a romance story and still keep integrity and a moving story line.

Good, but a few things . . .

This was a good book. A creative premise written in a surprisingly unpredictable way. The biggest problem I felt was the setting. It is only mentioned a few times that the story takes place in the 50s, so why bother? Especially with Morian. She is a very cool character - but a very 90s character. A black woman friends with whites? In the 50s? I don't think so. A black woman SLEEPING AROUND (with a WHITE GUY, no less) on the 50s? Nope. No way. Other than this, I felt The Catswold Portal was a good book. (For true cat books, I'd recommend my all-time favorite, Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams)
