Description

The Brontë Sisters were a nineteenth-century literary family, born in the village of Thornton and later associated with the village of Haworth in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The sisters, Charlotte (1816 1855), Emily (1818 1848), and Anne (1820 1849), are well known as poets and novelists. Like many contemporary female writers, they originally published their poems and novels under male pseudonyms: Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell. Their stories immediately attracted attention for their passion and originality. Charlotte's Jane Eyre was the first to know success, while Emily's Wuthering Heights, Anne's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and other works were later to be accepted as masterpieces of literature. The three sisters and their brother, Branwell (1817 1848), were very close and during childhood developed their imaginations first through oral storytelling and play set in an intricate imaginary world, and then through the collaborative writing of increasingly complex stories set therein. The deaths of first their mother, and then of their two older sisters marked them profoundly and influenced their writing, as did the relative isolation in which they were raised. The Brontë birthplace in Thornton is a place of pilgrimage and their later home, the parsonage at Haworth in Yorkshire, now the Brontë Parsonage Museum, welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Good value

These editions are a good value for the price. They are inexpensively bound and probably wouldn't stand up to multiple uses by careless people but that's not me so I am pleased. I also like the notes in the back with translations of the french speeches in Jane Eyre (my french is a little rusty) and definitions of english words which aren't in modern usage. I read Jane Eyre as a teenager, many years ago now, but recently read "The Bronte Family" by Rebecca Fraser , which was excellent, very readable and which prompted me to buy this collection.

Highly anticipated purchase

I had been searching high and low for a book set by the Bronte sisters. This set has it all. I love the fact that it contains Wuthering Heights, my all time favorite literary novel of all time, besides Gone with the Wind, of course. If you are looking for a set to accentuate your current collection, or simply want to try out a novel by the Bronte sisters, this collection is the way to go. It contains their most favorite works, including some other lesser known ones. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did to receive this from Amazon.

Great Works at an Excellent Price

This affordable set of Bronte books was just what I was looking for. Though I've read the widely known titles, I loved revisiting them and then getting to know the other works. If you're someone that would rather read a physical book instead of the e-version, I highly recommend this product.

Happy Purchase

I'm very happy with this paperback Bronte set. It is very budget-esque, but that's why it's only around $20. The "box" came unglued, as others have mentioned, but no big deal, I just taped it on the bottom. The artwork is excellent, each book is handsome. I love the informative introductions, and the explanatory notes are tremendously helpful. I'd purchase it again, and may do for gift-giving.

This is a Bargain for Classics.

This is a classic collection of works that have withstood the test of time. The paperbacks have a nice aesthetic for your bookshelf and the content of the books is unparalleled. I mainly bought it to have a collection of all Charlotte Brontë’s works but was ecstatic to see I could purchase all of her sister’s works as well. As the premier literary family, all of there work is worth having on your shelves. So glad I could find this bargain!

I would recommend I guess.

As you can see by the pictures, there is damage to the box and the books. Overall, it's in ok condition, even though there's no reading folds in the pages and cover, it just seems second hand I won't lie.
On a happier note... it have 7 works in total with most boxsets only having 6. And that makes it worth it in the end.

Great books just poor packaging and handling. Damaged boxset.🥺

Love the books ! Waited to get them for years. I always read online or went to the library too check out the books. I now own the set myself.
But I just got my delivery and the boxset is torn already. I wasn't expecting to get a new set of books that was damaged.
