Furthermore, the current epidemic of chronic illness demands a new care standard that can break down the existing structural barriers to full resolution. It requires functional medicine. The Evolution of Medicine provides step-by-step instruction for building a successful "community micropractice," one that engages both the patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership focused on the body as a whole rather than isolated symptoms. HE GETS IT... But, the word "medicine" doesn't fit due to its connotation (Big Pharma's use for propaganda purposes)

We have been doing "alternative" HEALTH CARE for almost 40 years, including chiropractric HEALTH CARE, Science Based Nutrition HEALTH CARE, MedX Rehabilition HEALTH CARE, biomechanically correct home therapy HEALTH CARE, lifestyle change HEALTH CARE, functional joint restoration HEALTH CARE, Educational HEALTH CARE!!!! The egos in the medical profession have slammed us with name calling and slander for 121 years, all while destroying the health/lives of untold millions. What we in chiropractic have been doing is helping people positively change their lives/futures while being attacked by the POWERS THAT BE (financed by big pharma) with name calling, innuendo, bullying of patients to turn them into medical "Mooneys" to spread their GOSPEL OF "SCIENTIFIC MEDICINE". It is about time that somebody cracked their pseudoscientific shell and let the yolk sack spill onto the dirt. This book is the closest I've seen to an objective look at reality in the health care field... WE HAVE BEEN RIGHT FOR 121 years... Chiropractic, nutrition, exercise, respiration, detox, lifestyle choices, food choices, etc are the ONLY way to get truly healthy... medical care is great for trauma and emergencies, BUT HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT HEALTH. James Maskell gets an "A" for most of this book... OH, BY THE WAY... IT IS NOT ABOUT FUNCTIONAL "MEDICINE", it is about PRIMARY HEALTH CARE. We in primary health care can always refer out for trauma care or other things that have regressed into a need for "alternative" medical care. I am sad about what's happening to the population of our country with the Big Pharma chemicalization of children & adults for drug company profits. Also, we have our opinion on the vaccine industry because we believe it to be filled with corruption and failure, based on what we have witnessed and studied over many decades.

This book inspires and motivates practitioners who want to be part of this movement

Functional medicine and nutrition is the future when it comes to chronic diseases like anxiety, depression, diabetes, autoimmune disease, heart disease and more. Through the Functional Forum, founder James Maskell, has built amazing communities of practitioners all over the world, making it much easier for them to move into functional medicine and to collaborate together. This book inspires and motivates practitioners who want to be part of this movement and make an even bigger difference. I really enjoy the case studies he shares and I love that what he proposes is a win-win for the health practitioner and for the patient/client!

It’s written for integrative or functional medicine practitioners but is worth a read even if you’re not a practitioner (AND is well worth sharing with your practitioner).

The evolution healthcare so desperately needs is here!

James Maskell is a true visionary and I'm sure that one day we will look back at this book as a major turning point in healthcare.

The book outlines the need for practitioners to unchain themselves from the conventional system so they and their patients can exit the disease management treadmill and enter the world of Functional Medicine. A world where patients, not insurance companies, come first and instead of perpetuating disease progression, practitioners spend time with their patients to find and permanently resolve the cause of health problems.

Maskell covers in great detail how practitioners can transition from a cog in the conventional system to a leader in their own community based movement. The book is a complete instructional covering everything from patient education to practice efficiency to how to educate and attract new patients.

The evolution that our healthcare so desperately needs is here. I hope practitioners will make use of this incredible gift Maskell has created for them and pass it on in the form of their own gift to the world - a patient-centered, root-cause based, functional medicine micropractice. I also hope patients find inspiration here to bring this book to their doctor and demand the care that they deserve! Because as Maskell says, "To change everything, we need everyone."

James Maskell is making it practical to add the amazing diagnostic and treatment tools of functional medicine to day ...

I've studied functional medicine and cardiometabolic disease prevention for many years, and slowly integrated it into my family medicine practice, yet feel I'm not fully delivering what I know to my patients. I've even taken breaks from more training because I've been so frustrated with continuing to learn what I'm not actually using! James Maskell is making it practical to add the amazing diagnostic and treatment tools of functional medicine to day to day family practice, and more importantly, transform the business. He addresses the fear of the unknown that keeps many doctors like me stuck in our frustration with a limited allopathic approach to our patients, "Functional medicine is now easily repeatable and reproducible." I love his quote from George Addair, who was an important mentor to me: "Everything you've ever wanted is on the other side of fear."

When I went to medical school I thought, as a family doctor, I'd be working with a team of people to help people be well. Despite multiple efforts, I've found it difficult in an insurance model to add ancillary professionals to my practice. When James talks of "creating a team of synergistic providers" it reignites my vision and excitement.

This book is loaded with specific advice and information about vetted services and businesses to support a medical practice that truly serves its community, from unique insurance models, telemedicine, coaching and on-line sales to programs offered by successful functional medicine professionals. I'm grateful for the heritage and vision he is sharing, and I'll be studying his suggestions for many years!

Give this book to your doctor.

This book describes the way medicine needs to be delivered. It describes a style of care that includes the patient and emphasizes lifestyle as key to health. I bought a copy for my doctor so she would see how I would prefer my health care to be delivered and a more up-to-date and economically viable approach.

Join the Movement to Solve Chronic Disease and Fall Back in Love with Medicine provides a step-by-step instruction of how to ...

The Evolution of Medicine: Join the Movement to Solve Chronic Disease and Fall Back in Love with Medicine provides a step-by-step instruction of how to build a successful community micro practice. He wants this to be one that includes both the patient and the practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. But this must not only be dependent and focus on isolated symptoms but instead focus on the body. James Maskell wrote this to inform us that the current epidemic of illness of chronic disease demands a new care standard. It must be one that can break down the existing barrier preventing us to full resolution of chronic diseases.
The Evolution of Medicine provided new information of which a reader as myself may not have known. For example, in chapter two Facing Your Fears, I now understand from the Human Microbiome Project that “more than 99% of bacteria are good for us, regulating our digestion, metabolism, and immunity” (Maskell, 46). Before, physicians believed that all germs and microbes were bad and aimed to kill as many people as possible. Now instead of scientist trying to destroy every single one, they are now aiming to create a “good synergistic relationship between the person and the microbes within them” (Maskell, 46). Maskell explained that the movement to solve chronic diseases is not at all easy. The level of dissatisfaction among doctors is extremely high. With one survey, they found out that “83% of doctors were disillusioned with medicine and 63% considered or planned on quitting in the following tow year” (Maskell, 50). In 2015, Dr. Wible’s TEDMED talk states that over one million patients lose their doctors to physician suicide each year.
This book provides information on the evolution of modern medicine to treat chronic diseases and step-by-step on how to make it successful. James Maskell wrote this to encourage physicians and doctors to join the movement to solve chronic disease and fall back in love with medicine as many fear and wanting to leave the medical system. You can begin to see his concern at the beginning of the book. Not from how he wrote or the thoughts and details put into the book, but because to who he dedicated this book too “For my daughter kaliana and her generation, who desperately need our help”. I would recommend this book to anyone who seeks an answer on this topic or who is simply just interested. Although this book is a good one, I would have preferred if it had pictures or charts to go with certain area. To conclude, Maskell wants to reach out to the audience to reignite their love for the art of healing which it did for me.
