Alfred Hitchcock would love this book

Black humor at its best.

Mr. Kellerman's prose is so eloquent and beautiful; juxtaposed by a dark, diabolical and wickedly grisly spin down the rabbit hole.

Joseph thinks too much. He can't finish his dissertation, keep a girlfriend or job. Crashing with friends, broke, heartbroken and aimless; he is rescued and befriended by a lovely old woman who gives him all that he desires in life. Two enlightened explorers of philosophy, creative thinkers, dilettantes. Joseph is now being paid and kept, and he in turn, provides conversation.

How far will a very passive and quite lazy man like Joseph go to protect his new, serene and pecunious lifestyle and his octogenarian friend. A wild ride of implausible events ensues, and the dreamlike haze that envelopes the protagonist also grabs you by the adrenal gland. You blanch at the abominable as you laugh out loud.

I will give no details, but Mr. Kellerman scores a near perfect book once again.

Jesse Kellerman kicks butt!

Jesse Kellerman is so much greater than the sum of his parents, as he proves brilliantly in this book. True, the protagonist is annoying -- deliberately so (Speaking of annoying -- I've just about had it with the narcissistic Alex Delaware). Yes, there are implausible moments -- show me the psychological thriller that doesn't force you to suspend disbelief at some point. But "The Executor" has something I've never found in any other book of this genre -- a sense of humor. I actually laughed out loud at some of the thoughts going through Joseph's head. I've now read all of Jesse's books, and with the exception of the first, I found them to be edgy, unexpected and beautifully written. I eagerly await his next.

Didn't quite make it . . .

As an avid fan of Jesse Kellerman, I anxiously awaited the publishing of his latest work. Although the book had a slow beginning, I anticipated that it would pick up with the usual brilliant flair Mr. Kellerman used in his prior works. His use of language is spot on, which makes this book readable. Unfortunately I found that the book dragged until way past the middle, and when it did pick up, it was so predictable that it was boring. I still anticipate the release of his next title, and hope that this book is not indicative of a new writing style.
