The Final Reckoning (McMurtrie and Drake Legal Thrillers, 4)

The entire book is so stupid. All of the tension and drama of the book, all of it, would have been eliminated if the protagonists had just not acted like idiots. The first three books were pretty good; this one was a sad finale.

What does the brilliant professor do when a crazed murderer, who promised to come kill him and his family, escapes jail? Does he go into Witness Protection? Nope. He sits and wait around with a few sentries in a hard-to-guard place to see if he was serious. And what does he do when the murderer follows through on his word and kills a few people? Does he go into Witness protection then? Nope. He just sits around and hopes that nothing bad happens. And after that? He waits some more.

I know Bob can only write books so fast - like all great character authors, we finish one book and want the next one quickly. The wait for this one was difficult, but well worth it! It took a matter of seconds to reconnect to the people we've met in the earlier books and become emotionally invested in their latest adventures. I live in the area where the books are set, so it's a bonus for me to be able to envision the story in my mind's eye. I knew how the book would end for the Professor and thought the sadness may overshadow the story line. There was just no time for that as I was too caught up in the action. There are a handful of authors I read time and again and Bob is one of those. I just finished The Final Reckoning, but the next stories with The General and Bo are already on my watch list. If you have not read this series, you owe it to yourself to read them now and add Bob to your list of "never miss" authors.

I gave this as a gift. After discovering this author, I've purchased most of his paperbacks and periodically given them as gifts to the same person. This time, while she enjoyed it, the recipient said it was a little scary for her. But she was quick to add that it still was very good. And so, I just purchased his newest one for her. Bailey is such a good author of legal thrillers. I guess sometimes the thrillers can be scary. So, enjoy it.

I'm not sure if I loved this book so much because it brings the amazingly well-formed tale of these characters to a tidy end, or because it's just flat out a tremendous read. Regardless, Bailey has really outdone himself. This book is front to back a masterpiece. I mean that. Right up there with any of the classics. The storyline, the character development, the pacing and the subtle prose that keeps the mind in tune with the writer's intent. I can't say more about this book. I wish I had more stars to click.

always impressed by his ability to grab/hold the readers attention as he spins his entertaining fiction.

This is the last book in the series about the "Professor." The series is a very exciting and well written legal thriller. Highly recommend.

The author, Robert Bailey, had become one of my favorite writer. Every one of his books has had twists and turns to keep you wanting more.

This was a great read with twisty story lines.

Robert Bailey's work has become a favorite of mine. I love this series. I especially like it as I am from Huntsville Al. and this series deal with a lot of our area but his writing and story line is also wonderful.
