Description

Do you think your child is special? Well, perhaps he or she is! Self-help professionals Lee Carroll and Jan Tober have collected essays by dozens of doctors, counselors, and other childhood experts that seem to document the arrival on earth of a newly evolved species of human kiddie referred to here as an "indigo" child. The 10 most common traits are: 1.) They come into the world with a feeling of royalty. 2.) They have a feeling of deserving to be here. 3.) Self-worth is not a big issue. 4.) They have difficulty with authority by ritual or without explanation. 5.) They simply will not do certain things. 6.) They get frustrated with systems that don't require creative thought. 7.) They often see better ways of doing things. 8.) School is often difficult for them and they can seem antisocial. 9.) They will not respond to guilt-trip discipline. 10.) They are not shy about letting you know what they need. If your little angel/devil fits this pattern and you are pulling your hair out trying to relate, you may want to read this book before resorting to Ritalin. --P. Randall Cohan Lee Carroll and Jan Tober, the authors of The Indigo Children and An Indigo Celebration, speak before thousands of seminar attendees worldwide on human enablement and empowerment. Lee has authored numerous books that have been translated into multiple languages; and Jan is an accomplished writer and musician.

Features & Highlights

  • A must for the parents of unusually bright and active children!
  • The Indigo Child is a boy or girl who displays a new and unusual set of psychological attributes, revealing a pattern of behavior generally undocumented before. This pattern has singularly unique factors that call for parents and teachers to change their treatment and upbringing of these kids to assist them in achieving balance and harmony in their lives, and to help them avoid frustration. In this groundbreaking book, international authors and lecturers Lee Carroll andJan Tober answer many of the often-puzzling questions surrounding Indigo Children, such as:· Can we really be seeing human evolution in kids today?· Are these kids smarter than we were at their age?· How come a lot of our children today seem to be “system busters”?· Why are so many of our brightest kids being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)?· Are there proven working alternatives to Ritalin?Throughout this work, Carroll and Tober bring together some very fine minds (doctors, educators, psychologists, and more) who shed light on the Indigo Child phenomenon. These children are truly special, representing a great percentage of all the kids being born today on a worldwide basis. They come in “knowing” who they are—so they must be recognized, celebrated for their exceptional qualities, and guided with love and care.

Life Saving Book

This book explains why I never understood my 9 year old son. I read it less than a week ago and have applied some of the information. I now realize that my child is on a wavelength that is much different than mine. With this information I have a better idea of how to communicate effectively with him.Thank you auhtors and Universe.

Eye-opener for parents, educators, health practitioners

This book was a fascinating eye-opener for me. I read it cover-to-cover in one sitting, finding myself drawn from one chapter to the next. Parents of "problem children" will find an exciting hope and insight in these pages. Savvy educators will be elated, challenged, and stimulated to teach differently. Therapists, doctors, and social workers will gain new windows through which to view their clients, with a host of new solutions. Employers: Indigo children are growing up and will soon move into the workplace. For wise, sensitive, individually-focused employers, these employees will be a special treasure. For others, they will be a mystery...and will soon be gone.
Carroll and Tober, who kept hearing about Indigo children in their work as self-help counselors and lecturers, knew nothing about the topic. They felt that a book needed to be written, so they wove their ignorance, amazement, curiosity, and receptivity into a delightful journey. From the very beginning of the book, they wove in presentations by a wide range of experts to tell the story. Reading this volume is like being in the audience at a seminar where a panel of experts is delivering knowledge, perspective, and experience just for you.
What is an Indigo Child? Definition: "one who displays a new and unusual set of psychological attributes and shows a pattern of behavior generally undocumented before." Common traits include coming into the world with a feeling of royalty, having a feeling of "deserving to be here," a high level of self-worth, difficulty with absolute authority, a reluctance to do certain things, frustration with routine that doesn't require creative thought, searching for better ways to do things-not conforming to the "system," antisocial (especially in school), lack of response to guilt discipline, and open in declaring what they need. The color aspect of the name came from the work of Nancy Ann Tappe, quoted effectively in the book.
The first chapter, appropriately, defines and explains the Indigo Child. Chapter Two delivers solutions: What Can You Do? Surprise-no build-up to bestow solutions at the end of the manuscript; it's right up front. Chapter three explores the spiritual aspects of the Indigos, a fascinating perspective even for those of us who consciously resist "woo-woo." Health issues are discussed in chapter four, revealing the challenges of mis-diagnoses by physicians who are focused on symptoms without understanding causes. The book closes with messages from several Indigos who have grown out of their childhood and can relate to their experience from their perspective as adults.
The book is filled with references for further reading and learning. Carroll and Tober have given us a springboard to understanding.

Must read book

This is an incredible book, that should be read by anyone that knows of someone that is classified as ADD/ADHD or someone you know that is on ridlin. This book is one of the first of its kind to actually help explain how special the children are that are very active. I have two children that I can understand better with the help of this book. It shows that these children are special and they are different, they won't behave like other children in school settings, and that is okay, you just need to learn how to work with them differently.
Thanks again for a great book. This is a book you will want to read slowly and read over and over again, to not miss any of the great points/ideas that are presented.

I Never Swallow Anything Whole

This book has reviewed for me the precious nature of all children and opened my mind the possibilities for the future. I am a deeply committed Christian so the New age references take me out of my realm but on the whole I do find the suggestions, stories, and evidence to be most worthy of consideration. Ultimately, I believe all children can benefit from the nurturing techniques included in this book and think everyone who is involved with our young could do well to read this volume.

Informative book about the Indigos

Indigo children are a new kind of children who have been coming into the world in recent years. They are termed Indigos because their auras have been found to be indigo in colour.

I've been somewhat disappointed by this book due to the fact that Lee Carroll did not seem to want to let us know about his role as channeller of Kryon, as though this was too "weird". Also, the role and function of Doreen Virtue, a main contributor to the book, as an angel expert I felt was extremely underplayed, as though this too was weird. Also, there were so many different contributors to the book that I was somewhat confused as regards who was the author of whatever section I was reading.

However, all in all I found it to be a useful book providing much valuable information about Indigos.

I most appreciated the listing of the most common traits of Indigo children:
1) They come into the world with a feeling of royalty.
2) They have a feeling of deserving to be here.
3) Self-worth is not an issue. They often tell the parents who they are.
4) They have difficulties with absolute authority (without explanation or choice).
5) They simply will not do certain things, for example stand in a queue.
6) They get frustrated with systems that are ritual-oriented and don't require creative thought.
7) They often see better ways of doing things and thus seem like "system-busters".
8) They seem anti-social unless they are with their own kind. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.
9) They will not respond to "guilt" discipline" such as "Just wait until your father comes home!"
10) They are not shy in letting you know what they need.

Many of these children have been diagnosed with ADHD and ADD, since they have excessive amounts of energy, bore easily, have a short attention span and cannot sit still unless absorbed in something of their own interest. Many will be labelled as hyperactive trouble-makers who won't listen.

"Indigos came to serve the planet, their parents, and their friends as emissaries from Heaven - bearers of wisdom, if listened to."

They appear to stay happy, are very spiritual, and have their own agenda.

They demand much attention and can't figure out why others operate in anything other than love.

The advice given is to treat Indigos with respect, help them create their own disciplinary solutions and give them choices about everything. " ... if you give them authoritative, dictatorial orders without good, solid reasons, these kids will take you apart:"

Indigos are open and honest - this is their greatest strength.

There are sections written by various persons who themselves are parents of Indigo children and have thus special insight into them.

We are advised not to medicate these children with Ritalin since it is obviously harmful, in that it causes biochemical imbalances.

Instead, we could give the children a dietary supplement called Smart Start, which contains chelated minerals, antioxidant vitamins and "botanicals" (whatever these are, presumably something derived from plants). Many parents have found that this supplement helps tremendously. Other useful supplements are also recommended, particularly blue-green algae from Klamath Lake (before reading this book I had actually just ordered this supplement for myself to help me with detoxing).

To sum up, I found this to be an important book in the understanding of these Indigo children, particularly since I have a grandchild who seems to be one. It provides helpful information and advice on how best to tackle them, and I would recommend it both to those with children with ADHD or ADD symptoms, or those who suspect their kids to be Indigos. (However, it is pointed out that not all Indigos have ADHD or ADD, and all those with these symptoms are not Indigos.)

Good practical stuff here (take or leave the theory part)

I liked this book a lot. I don't necessarily feel that children with the qualities described in this book are new... BUT I do feel that there are a LOT more of them today! I would recommend this book to any parent that wants some practical good ideas on how to care for the young and for anyone that is involved in teaching and working with children in general. There are some specific attitudinal shifts suggested, how to relate, vitamins and minerals etc. It also has some theories on why there seams to be more "sensitive" kids these days, which needs a pretty open mind to accept and you can take or leave, (I mostly accept) but everything else in the book on practical application is wonderful and good all by itself. The best way to help the planet has always been the proper nurturing of the next generation that's going to use it.

Children for the new millennium

So many children are misunderstood and abused, verbally or physically, or medically. This book explains what the Indigo children are all about, and encourages respect and nurturing for them in their differences instead of drugging them to conform to the old paradigm. We need these millennial children unharmed to guide us all through the new millennium. If you have any young children in your life, please read this book!

ENLIGHTENING

I've heard about the Indigo children for a number of years now. After reading some of the Kryon material and Mr. Carroll's information on the Indigo's, I finally decided to order them. I should have done it long ago. I work with "different" children and this has answered many questions. I was addionally blessed when Amazon sent me an email saying, "People who have read the Indigo Children have also read "Forerunners Of The New Civilization, Indigo Adults", by Kabir Jaffe and Ritama Davidson.
I knew I had to have it, and it has been like reading my life. Many times I wept as I read confirmation after confirmation about myself. I am 69 years young and am excited about the changes that are taking place. Things may not look so good on the surface, but "Where sin abounds, Grace much more abounds". I look forward to participating in the rebuilding of the New Age. Ron

Another viewpoint, useful information!

When working with children you must have both consistent and individual ways of working with them to achieve the desired result. Group settings are not always the best way to educate, but that's the way most of society is set up today. This book gives many angles, many viewpoints and many options that can be used with the general population and children in particular, so be open minded!! Try something new, do something a little bit different than you have in the past --- and see if a shift in your own behavior makes a difference in theirs! It's worth a try --- and that is the point of the book. Watch for the next book from the same authors in a few months! This is not a cure-all --- it's successful suggestions from many people in the field with children every day who are willing to share their experiences. Don't you have something to share?

A great book for the highly (highly) sensitive person in your life

I have a friend in Minnesota who is a bit of a nature child, and highly (highly) sensitive.

I got her this book (and another, similarly titled book) wayyy back in 2005 (to be specific, as I had to know when I bought this, for curiosities' sake, and according to Amazon: "You purchased this item on November 29, 2005" haha) and she mentioned yesterday thay she was rereading it now, hence this review.

Apparently, it not only helped her, but also her daughter, who is just like her in those ways. According to her, she'd recommend it without hestitation.

And, as the friend of someone like her, I'd recommend it as a gift.
